    Post HDD Problem

I have a 500GB Samsung HDD which was bought on April 2010. If I remember it right, then it had 3 years warranty. But from last night its acting weird. It took a long time to copy anything, I had problems deleting files also it took a long time to boot. Today I checked for errors using TuneUp Utilities and found nothing. Then I defragged the whole drive. Now everything is normal (Boot Time, Copying Speed etc.). To make sure everything is all right I ran a Surface Test with HDDScan and found this ("7 Bads"). Does that mean I have bad sectors in my HDD? And Do you think I can claim warranty? Also How can I convince my shopkeeper(I bought it from Barisal)? Do I have to backup everything or they'll give me the same drive?

After running chkdsk, found 171kb bad sectors in drive D. How many days can it take to RMA?

bro i have the same prob.I converted my laptop HDD to a portable one using HDD external case.when i start copying stuff the speeds are great around 60mb/s but it decreases to 5-10mb/s then gets stuck and the HDD makes noises.

it happens when copying files larger than 2gb but when copying files less than 1gb there is no prob.how do i use HDDscan to search for the problems?

I did formatted the drive and made new partitions now all bad sectors are reallocated and there's zero bad sectors in HDD. You can try this though its not a permanent fix.

btw I had the same problem you described. you can run a chkdsk to be sure. to run chkdsk you have to select the drive in my computer>tools>check for error.
P.s- after formatting the drive defrag your hdd regularly
