    Default Help me establish myself

As some people, i need to move on from my current stature. Somehow this thread has been blessed with few gifted talented people who specialized in the network media and so on most categories.

Point being am gonna move to University after my May exam maybe and In shal Allah I will to have certain attributes to contribute for Digital Media.

I wanted to study CGI effects abroad, but now am lost on hope cause the money i was suppose to get from our property was seized by Gov't subordinates. Don't know if we're getting it back somehow

If you guys could, please teach me stuff like web design, After effects, 3D Modelling and other multimedias. I have great creative output and i need to give as much effort as i could to help me and my mom in the future I dreamed big but after seeing no window for myself i felt crushed.

Am not gonna lie, my disease is still not gone and its getting worse but thanks to @Scott Pilgrim @K93bk @aayman for your Knowledge and open for understanding. Thanks for the cooperation

Please, this is the only place i could see that could help me. Any tutorials, guidelines and links could help me. I need to learn how to get started with everything else

Following applications i know so far:

    Paint(80%)
    PowerPoint(30%)
    FruityLoops(35%)
    Adobe After effects(5%)

Well, thing is... amar same obostha hoisilo tomar ekhon jei situation... BD te onek search korsi kothay kisu pora jay kina digital media niye... but turns out... In terms of academics, this country has no more to offer than an Intel HD graphics card. :S

koyekta jinish(BBA, some forms of engineering, pharmacy.. thats it) chhara kissu porar nai eikhane.

I am a hobbyist on digital media for a very long time. 3ds Max, AfterEffects, Premiere 2001 theke ghatachhi... tokhon bhabtam A'lev shesh kore byre chole jabo, othoba deshe to kisu khuje paboi... Byreo jaite pari nai.. ar desheo kissssu nai... So satamatar BBA pora laagse...

Tumi jodi professional hoite chao (not like BD media te jara kaaj kore, cause they have no formal education on what they do... I know cause I even went to them for information) taile byre jawa chhara kono upay nai. Ashe pashe theke tuk tak shikhte parba... but nothing near production quality.

Karon tumi ja shikhte chahho ta diye ki korte chao that needs to be defined. Tumi jodi hobby er karon e shikhte chao, taile problem nai.. But if take this seriously, taile eikhane hobe na...

Plus you have to have a focus on one area, or at least narrow it down. Like you mentioned about learning web design and 3d modeling in the same sentence... You have to remember they dont cross roads. Even jodi hobbyist o hoite chao, having a focus rather than a little bit of this and a little bit of that wont help you produce anything.

3D modelling onek onek time consuming jinish. You can directly compare it with hand-sculpting. So its not easy. 3D animation of those same 3D models is a completely different area.

Sadly these things take years of professional training and supervised practice to attain broadcast quality. That just simply cannot be achieved from tutorials and informal supervision.

So I think you should do some thinking and compare your goals... whats possible, whats realistic... I guess I sound pessimistic.. may be because I was greatly disappointed with my high hopes once...

(my sig was modeled in 3ds max, rendered in keyshot and animated in after effects... )

Photoshop is a professional software. All billboards, movies, games has to go through photoshop at least once. You can't create digital art without it. I am not a pro. But I can introduce you to the tools and give you some quick pointers on what to do. I was taught by Nitol mama, my mom's collegue. He was one of the designers and grapic artists of Meena cartoon film. Photoshop lets me get whatever I imagine on the screen and then some. Contact me whenever you are interested.

By the way I know a few places who teach video editing and camera work. Sourcekoder teaches codes. Google SourceKoder (the spelling is correct)

You can read in SMUCT. I guess they are the leading insititute in Digital Media. Bangladesh needs Graphic Designers. Wondered where those huge billboards are designed? If you can open up a Ad firm you will get rich soon, if you can make the clients happy. I can join the Marketing department of you firm and come up with ad campaigns since um studying those sorta stuffs.

The movie, not the cartoon. The cartoon series was developed by mostly indians with some foreign help. The movie was made by Greenfield or something, the first animation studio of BD.

If you want a career in graphics, you should trust SMUCT. Better for internship, plus you will know the go to people of graphics designing in bangladesh. If you want a career in Photo or Video journalism then I think my uni is best in bd, ULAB.

Yeah but people like them only want nothing to do but only Special effects for Shows, ajaira culture media.

Am influenced by big industrial artists from the likes of Del Toro, Spielberg, Kubrick, Jackson and Cameron.(I know big names but its what i grew up with since i was 13 ) So i really wanna strive around 3D animation and CGI effects.

Those on the other hand are just part time skills to learn, something to just pass time for the brief moments.

It is okay to feel lost at this moment, you're not the only one. Before you start anything, I'd suggest you to choose a sector first, know about the subject (an overview will do) and then learn a software that can do the job pretty well. First of all, it would be unwise to attempt to learn web design, motion graphics and compositing (After Effects) and 3D modeling at the same time. They have nearly nothing in common. So, choose one first and then proceed.

3D modeling is a valuable skill to have but it may seem fairly complex at first. You need to learn the basics of 3D objects first. Once you have known how things work in 3D, you can go ahead and learn a software of your choice. Autodesk's 3ds Max and Maya are two widely used software. Neither one is better than the other, so don't even bother to ask. It all comes down to personal preference. Maya can do almost everything 3ds Max can do and vice versa. Once you've finished learning one software, you can always learn another if you feel the urge. But try not to focus on both at the same time while you're still at the beginner level, you'll easily get confused. Student versions of these two are free (non-commercial use only). There are other alternatives like Maxon Cinema 4D (which has a powerful built-in particle engine), Lightwave, Luxology Modo etc. Blender is an open source alternative. You'll get to know more software like texturing and sculpting software once you have a solid foundation in a mother software.

As for motion graphics and compositing, they're fairly easy compared to 3D modeling. As you're already familiar with After Effects, it shouldn't take much time to learn this software. If you are interested in TV commercials, title animations and stuff like that, AE is the one you should learn. I wouldn't recommend more powerful and complex compositors like Nuke or Fusion to a beginner.

No matter what you learn, having good photoshop skills will only make your life easier. If you like programming, I'd recommend you to learn python as it will be useful in most 3D modeling and compositing software. It's not a must have skill, but will certainly help with scripting when you become an advanced user.

I'm not an expert in web design, I hope the experts here will surely help you with valuable suggestions.

Don't compare those. That's like asking the difference between a fishing boat and a frigate. Picasa offers a tiny fraction of what photoshop can do. Average people use picasa is because it has easy-to-use presets and noob friendly UI. People love one-click solutions. You can do everything picasa does in photoshop plus thousand times more.

@proton_chain and @ others, I was just wondering what is needed to learn for special effects ? I mean those effects you see in movies like Harry Potter, 2012 etc. ? Is there any consumer level software (like Maya, PS) for creating those effects in home?

What you really want to learn? Animations or Video editing or Special Effects or Web Designing or Web Programming or just what? You cant just learn everything. You have to choose something specific.

As you cant do major in such subjects in BD I think you should first undergraduate in CSE/IT in here then specialize in your preferable subjects from abroad. Even if you somehow fail to become successful in digital media at least you'll have backup.

Those on the other hand are just part time skills to learn, something to just pass time for the brief moments.
Well, I was talking about BD prespective. If you want a job in Pixar or Dreamworks, then I must say, you need a fat wallet and determination. Bangladesh has still a lot to do in the graphics media. Whereas in India, its much more developed. There are good uni's too. However, the most developed is Japan, no doubt. There is a lot of demand for graphic artists and animators, thanks to Anime and Video Games.

I could use after effects for Live action footages right? Some of my friends were imploring me to help in some of their projects.

    Well...

Yes... its for live footage... Then again it depends upon what you want to do with those footage. Keep in mind, aftereffects is not a video editing software... its a software for video composition and it works on layers. There are many ways to achieve the same desired effect if you know what you are doing.

The best way to start something is to start it whether you know it or not... so get started...

trust me, it is kinda too much... you can casually start.. even though you dont understand a thing, over time, things may start to appear familiar...
