Take-Two confirms WWE deal, announces WWE 2K14
First 2K Sports wrestler to arrive in Autumn
Take-Two Interactive has officially acquired the rights to the WWE video game license in a five-year deal with WWE.
The first game to come from the deal will arrive in autumn 2013, by the new title of WWE 2K14, reports EPSN. This comes after the publisher agreed to publish future titles in the WWE franchise, following the demise of previous license holder THQ.
WWE's executive vice president of consumer products Casey Collins said, "As we look at the next-gen systems coming out, whether that's this holiday or next holiday, we want to make sure we align our property with who we thought would be a leader going forward on these next-gen systems."
2K Sports' vice president of marketing, Jason Argent, added, "We've looked at the WWE franchise with respect for a long time. There are a lot of similarities that we see, from the size of the franchise to the demographics of the franchise, and they fit in very well with what we've done with NBA in terms of development and marketing. We thought we could add tremendous value right off the bat and down the road. We're super excited to get an agreement in place."
Osaka, Japan-based WWE developer Yuke's will work with Take-Two's Visual Concepts studio on WWE 2K14, along with 'key designers' previously behind THQ's WWE titles hired by Take-Two.
The financial terms of the deal went undisclosed.
