    Default Laptop Problem

I have an HP laptop. I've had it for a long, long time with no problems at all. One day while using it the screen suddenly went blank. I restarted it but the screen still stays black. All the buttons light up and everything, just there is no display. Tried connecting the laptop to a monitor but there is still no display. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I'm sure someone must have encountered it. Please help.

The backlight does light up, but the screen still remains completely black. Just you can see very faintly that the light has actually lit up.

Try this remove battery, remove plug and hit the power button for 30 seconds.
then put back the battery and start your computer once you see something on the screen, plug the cord
