A rough cut video of a new Ubisoft Monteal title called Osiris has emerged on the net.
The video, a very early rough cut comprised of mo-cap studio footage, concept art and what looks like a couple of snippets of in-game footage, was unearthed on composer Mark Killian’s blog.
It shows a hero grappling with angry mobs, and a conjured plague of insects. The name of the game - Osiris - refers to an Egyptian god, which along with some of the imagery suggests a Middle Eastern setting.
The vid emerged overnight, following a statement from Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat saying that the Prince of Persia series has been put on hold.
"Brand management is a tricky thing,” he said. “It needs people's attention a lot. I think it is fair to say that, right now, Prince of Persia is being paused.”
Mallat went on to say that, despite this, fans shouldn’t worry too much.
"I'm not scared at all for Prince of Persia fans," he continued. "Well find something to entertain them with in the future. Prince of Persia is part of Ubisoft's portfolio. As a matter of fact, we sometimes iterate on franchises and sometimes we give them time to breathe and time to grow, or time to rest.
"Prince of Persia is as important as any other franchise for Ubisoft. As soon as we have something to show, we will."
Could these two bits of news be related? Is Osiris stepping into the gap left by Prince of Persia? Presumably it’s a next-gen title, right? More questions have been raised than answered.
This following image could possibly the one from the game which surfaced a long ago:
