Since there are some site related posts here, I thought it would be appropriate to post here. Couldn't find any section more appropriate. My query is if any news corporation with average daily hit of 10,000 wants to ensure almost 100% up time what type measure it should take? I know the question is very generic but it summarizes the main theme properly. To be a bit detailed, what would be the ideal choices for example:
    1. How to chose the location for data centers?
    2. Which one should be ideal, renting data centers or hosting services?
    3. If data center renting is good, any particular thing to consider?
    4. If one of the servers is hosted in Bangladesh, which ISP would be best?

I know these are very random questions and needs way too much clarification, but I appreciate any kind of feedback plus any good article or news about data center distribution of any well know website or corporation. I hope I'll get good feedback from people in this forum.

    > 4. If one of the servers is hosted in Bangladesh, which ISP would be best?

None, terrible ISPs who drop their BGP feeds every 10 minutes.

    > 3. If data center renting is good, any particular thing to consider?

Hire a good sysadmin who's worked with said datacenter or related services before.

    > 2. Which one should be ideal, renting data centers or hosting services?

You do not rent data centers, you rent servers on them. If by 'Hosting Services,' you mean Shared hosting, yeah, no, that's not going to cut it.

Where reliability is critical, you at least need a premium dedicated server. Of course, that's the least.

    > 1. How to chose the location for data centers?

    Where's your target demographic? BD?

If yes, try for something in EU, or if this company has the cash (2-3k USD per mo on hosting), Sg/Jp/Hk/Kr are good too.

As for how to 'ensure' 100% uptime, you want automated load balancing and failover. None of this is in any area you want to tread if you don't have experience.

For software based load balancing, try a dns round robin setup that can get you redirection based on network response/http response/load times.

After that, you want ha-proxy or nginx to automatically reverse proxy from multiple backend boxes spread throughout the globe. If your company has the cash (10+k USD), look into a F5 hardware load balancer.

Much appreciated. Although by renting data centers I meant, they'll just provide the bare bone hardware, OS and other necessary stuffs will be installed by the client. And by hosting services I meant both shared and dedicated. Target demographic is pretty much all the major countries like US, UK and countries in Middle East, also other Asian countries. Target is to make page loading time within 1 second, so I guess DNS round robin setup based on response or load time won't cut it. nginx will do the job . Actually I've to give a rough outline so thought ask you people for some cool ideas. BTW, @Codex , Where do you work, if you don't mind to disclose it.

Will not happen for anything media heavy. nginx is a good static file server, but it's nothing magical.
Not to mention, database driven content will need dedicated object cache servers, such as memcached and sphinx/searchd for searching.
