You would need something that has a good soundstage and imaging at your budget a few headphones provided that they have a good source (dac, amp , soundcard) will perform exceptionally, much better than your average gaming headset.

    Creative aurvana live.
    Shure SRH 440
    Brainwavz Hm-3
    Koss DJ-100

There are a few more but I don't remember which ones had good imaging at this price range all these should cover your needs far better then the overpriced gaming variants.
    FTW!!!!!!!!!!

if i were u, i would buy a decent sound card and then put my concentration on getting a good headphone or headset, a good headphone without a sound card is just like a solid costly car without petrol.

Yes external sc is also available but i will suggest u to get a pci or pci-ex sc.And shure will be a great choice.U will definately get good music listening experience from srh 440.And i dont think u will need external amp for that hp as they are quite effecient.Thouh if u find any lackings u can alaways add amp in future but most probably it will not be needed.Just pair it with a good sc and u r ready to go.Though there r some sc which has built-in dedicated hp amp but i guess those will be out of ur budget.

If u can increase ur budget a little more ... in 12k range u will get ATH-AD700 .... best in this price range for gaming ... biggest soundstage ... all u need to do is to add a microphone (300-500/=) ... watch youtube for this mod.
It is also good for music (classical/jazz ... specially piano pieces).
As it is an open headphone, u wont get thumping base, but its deep enough and very nice sounding headphone.
And to get the maximum juice out of it u need very good sound card like the xonar st ... or good DAC ... at least FiiO E7 or E17.

But if u dont want to spend that much (HP+sound card/DAC) ... then HTF600 is more than enough for u IMO. Without a good soundcard/DAC, high quality headphone wont do any good rather than emptying ur wallet.
