Thinnest phone ever made by Apple, Schiller says. 7.6mm thick

    18% thinner than iPhone 4S.

    Schiller says it's the world's thinnest. 112 grams -- 20% lighter than 4S.

Schiller: Can you make a phone that had everything that iPhone 4S had in a thinner, lighter, smaller design?

The early pictures were right: the iPhone 5 matches the images online.

18% thinner is a big reduction on the iPhone 4, which was already shaved down from previous iPhones.

Now onto the features: Retina Display 326 pixels per inch (same as old model). New screen - 4-inch display.

    Pixels 1136 x 640.

16:9 aspect ratio. Why, Schiller asks? A phone should work in your hand.

The screen's indeed four inches, and that 1136x640 that has been discussed/guessed at. Now discussing the use cases.

Showing a thumb. Schiller: "When you use your phone, it should be easy to use the phone with one hand."

Vertical pixels add a 5th row of icons to the home screen.

Side by side with an older iPhone, shows more visible email space above the virtual keyboard.

Same thing with iLife. iWork, iPhoto, Garageband.

there's a full 5-day week view in calendar. Also iWork apps all re-done to work with the bigger display.

Software on the phone has been updated. Means more e-mail, more Web pages in Safari.

Existing apps center with black borders on the side (or top/bottom).

Widescreen movies look better, Schiller says. 44% more color saturation than iPhone 4S. Now takes us to sRGB display spec.

That's the first new feature, Schiller says. Onto "Ultrafast wireless technology."

Touch sensors are now built into the display itself. 30% thinner as a result, also makes display less prone to glare.

it's easier for app developers is a plus, but I think nearly any app developer would want to take advantage of the extra space immediately.

    Yes, That's LTE

    Deutsche Telekom, EE

    Australia: Telstra, Optus, Virgin Mobile

Asia: Softbank, Smartone, Singtel, SK Telecom

Canada: Bell, Telus, Fido, Vigin, Kudo.

LTE is the most complicated networking spec, Schiller says. So what netwroks will supoort it? In U.S. Sprint, AT&T, Verizon.

    802.11 a/b/g/n, 802.11n 2.4GHz & 5GHz up to 150Mbps

    Now comes the processor

2x faster than the A5. 2x faster in graphics too

Huge jump in performance, but 22% smaller than A5 chip, Schiller says.

2.1x launch pages app, 1.7x for saving image from iPhoto app. Basically about 2x the performance, Schiller offers.

1.9x for loading Music app with songs, 1.7x for viewing a Keynote attachment.

So coming up is Rob Murray, exec. producer from EA studios to demo what the A6 can do.

Murray is showing us Real Racing 3.

A very popular series, this being the latest installment obviously.

Murray says the working rear-view mirrors and reflections make it easier to play -- you can actually see what's going on around you.

Pretty smooth framerate here, even with a bunch of other cars on the track

So one person can do a race one day, and the other person can race against them -- basically what's known in gaming as "ghosting." But Murray says it's more than that. He can bump the car and have it affect the times.

Coming to the App Store later this year, Murray says. Demo's done, Schiller back up now.

We're talking battery life now from the big battery logo...

A 2x faster CPU and 2x faster I'm curious how it compares to the A5X.

Schiller says the battery life is now 8 hrs 3G talktime, 3G browsing. 8hrs LTE browsing, 10 hrs Wi-Fi browsing, 10 hrs video, 40 hours Music. 225 hrs of standby.

Now onto the camera. The "iSight" camera

8 megapixel sensor, 3264x2448 resolution w/backside illumination, hybrid IR filter, five-element lens, f2.4 aperture. 25 percent smaller.

    New: dynamic low light mode

Combines pixels in the dark, which gives you up to two f stops better performance in low light. That's an impressive claim.

New "sapphire crystal" and "precision lens alignment."

Now we're seeing some photos taken on it. Beaches, children.

"The world is just a more beautiful place."

So, the iSight camera looks similar to the iPhone 4S...with enhancements,

Faster photo capture? 40% the iPhone 4S is already pretty snappy.

    New photo feature: Panorama

You hold your phone vertical and you sweep your scene. The camera provides feedback. You get pretty photos, Schiller offers. 28 megapixel images, so full quality.

Big screen photos of the iPhone 5 pics. "kids look happier!"

In real-time, it takes parts of photos and stitches them together. Uses image stabilization, and removes duped people.

Video as well: 1080p video, the stabilization has improved. Face detection for 10 people, and now you can take photos while you're shooting video.

Audio system: three microphones (up from 2) one on the bottom, one on the front, and one on the back.

Claiming improved artifact removal (always a weird side effect of panorama)

Speaker now has 5 magnets, up from two, which is apparently better. Also uses 20% less space.

Noise-canceling improved as well, Schiller says. New feature called "Wideband audio."

The video camera has better stabilization. And the front-facing camera is finally 720p. Small but important improvements.

    New: the connector.

The iPhone has used the iPod 30 pin connector, which launched in 2003. Served us well for almost a decade, Schiller says. Many things we do over the wire we now do wirelessly, he adds.

"A lot's changed and it's time for the connector to involved." Called Lightning

Now we have Thunderbolt (the connector) and lightning. All-digital, 8-signal design. has an "Adaptive interface." Can be plugged in in either direction. 80% smaller -- huge difference, Schiller says

Accessory makers working on it, like Bose, JBL, Bowers and WIlkins, BO.

Company will have an adapter. 30 pin to Lightning adapter will let you plug in your 30 pin connector and use with a Lightning plug. Yes, it is called Lightning. (Does that mean Thunderbolt support?)

No word on price on those adapters...or any of this so far.

Here's the question: which is the killer feature? It feels like the iPhone 5 is more of an overall refinement and re-engineering, as well as offering speed boosts across the board (4G, A6)

    - - - Updated - - -

Two questions left -- how much do I have to spend?

Same price as the iPhone 4S. $199 for 16GB

    Same prices. No 128GB model.

    $299 for 32GB and $399 for 64GB

    iPhone 4 w/8GB for free w/contract, i16GB iPhone 4S for $99.

    Release: pre-order Sept. 14th

By end of year, 100 countries, 240 carriers.

    iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS, new iPad, iPad 2, and 4th gen get iOS 6 on September 19.

So, pre-order on Sept 14, and iOS 6 next week, a few days before the iPhone 5 goes on sale. Much like last year.
