Default Rahim Afrooz 1000VA UPS backup

i brought a Rahim Afrooz UPS 1000VA [premium] from najifa store in ECS computer city [multiplan center] the other day and charged it for 8+ hours with no load connected. after that, connected everything and the ups gave a backup of about 30 minutes in TOTAL.

now, did i end up with a duf ups here or sth... cause i didnt tell them abt the backup problem cause then they would surely ask me to bring the unit to the shop or sth.... i have the warranty card [warranty starts from 09/2012] and the money receipt so no worries there cause i just brought the unit. but i knew that the rahim afrooz ups was a beast when it came to backup time... i mean the computer was in FREAKIN' idle mode. the lcd monitor was off [into idle mode], cpu was idling though i have a 675 watt psu but i am sure it was hardly drawing no more than 100 watts [ i know, its more like less than 50 watts]. so should i change the unit or sth...??

any feedback is welcome and i know that there are a lot of rahim afrooz ups users here who can shed some light onto this matter.
oh, and i bought this unit for 7,400 taka. i know its a lot but i thought i was paying premium for a reason, now it seems like i have been cheated badly,..

@Vanguard any help would be useful... is 25-30 mins backup with 22 inch lcd, 675 watt psu and c2d 3.0GHz, altec lansing 2:1 speakers [ browsing the web mostly ] normal for a new 1000va rahim afrooz unit... thanks

no its not normal. You should get atleast 65-70 mins. Change your batteries. I have had the same problem right after buying my Luminous 1000va until i claimed warranty and they replaced the batteries. Now i get 70-80 mins while browsing and listening musics.

@Vanguard many thanks for the feedback...feels wonderful to hear that.... i was feeling sick in my stomach with my new ups. but one more thing, since u faced a similar problem with ur ups, what did u say to convince them for claiming a warranty replacement... i mean i will take the ups unit to the shop and say that even after charging for 8 hours, the ups still gives very poor backup and will claim my warranty to replace the batteries, right? pls let me know if u said sth specifically that helps claiming warranty easier. thanks...

Why the hell you need to take it???? Call at 16213--- they will come to your home and take it. After replacing the batteries, they will again return it to you.

hmm... but i didnt buy it from rahim afrooz directly... i bought it from a store called nijifa in ecs computer city. the number 16213 is their customer care number i know, i called there for a software problem i was having b4. so do u think i dont need to go to the store at multiplan center with the ups. just call rahim afrooz from home and explain them the matter and claim my warranty and thats it. that would be awfully helpful and convenient for me. ok, will try calling them. a thousand thank you[s] my kind sir....

ah i see... then surely i will call them tomorrow and claim my warranty.... will keep posting in this thread until i get my 60+ min backup for normal web browsing etc use....

    - - - Updated - - -

the rahim afrooz ppl came with their blue t-shirts on. they were kind of reluctant to take it for warranty cause it was recently bought and they said that because of the 22 inch monitor i had, i would see a max backup of 30 mins. they even called their 'boss' and discussed the matter and i assume 'he' ordered they guys to check the ups. so i disconnected the mains supply and we waited.

oh, b4 they came, i tested the ups with 10+ hours of charging. it gave a backup of 34 minutes b4 it died. everything was idling. but i kept the monitor on [didnt let the monitor go into standby]

so i thought they surely wont take my ups if it gave a backup time of 30 mins. so i explained that nothing in going on in the computer meaning it is consuming very little power so i turned on a little music and Prime95... hehehe... i did this as they seemed very reluctant to even take it with them to check for themselves. i even explained that some of my friends had the same problem after buying a new ups which gave very poor back up time and after the battery were replaced, it performed like a champ giving near 1 hour backup. [which they couldnt believe]. anyhoo, after prime95, it lasted only 13 minutes and they took the ups for further testing.

they said they would be back with the ups tomorrow. lets see...

oh, another thing, they were playing with the warranty card from the begining and now i cant find it. is it normal for them to take the warranty card with them. thanks and lemme know ok, @Vanguard

so i thought they surely wont take my ups if it gave a backup time of 30 mins. so i explained that nothing in going on in the computer meaning it is consuming very little power so i turned on a little music and Prime95... hehehe... i did this as they seemed very reluctant to even take it with them to check for themselves. i even explained that some of my friends had the same problem after buying a new ups which gave very poor back up time and after the battery were replaced, it performed like a champ giving near 1 hour backup.

    ******DAMN brilliant!!!! Great job!!!!

Yes they will take ur warranty card and provide you a return slip.

hehehe... thanks... i even closed the 'all cpu meter' gadget minimized the prime95 program so nothing would give away the huge load i was putting on the computer. oh, and yes, they did give me a return slip. i see... i just hope that when they test the ups for themselves, they will find the backup time insufficient and do replace the batteries. i just want a proper ups with 60+ mins backup like guys have with ur luminous or RA ups....

yes i was thinking sth in those lines as well... i have experience in opening ups and replacing batteries and stuff... but i didnt want to do it. i didnt want to do anything to hamper a proper warranty. i didnt know that they would make such a fuss taking the ups for warranty. and at that time, it just didnt come to my head to ask them to open the ups casing and note down the battery serial number. should have done that...damn... now i will never know for sure.... ahh well, i dont know what i will do next if the ups still gives a low backup time even after the warranty. claiming warranty again will surely be more of a hassle.....

oh and one more thing, i plan on checking the ups b4 i accept it. should running prime95 for 40+ mins [is it too much??] be a good enough check for the ups batteries cause i remember u said that ur luminous ups gave 30 min backup playing crysis 2 dx11. so thats cpu + gpu load and thats a lot of power there. maxing my c2d e8400 should consume a mere 65 watt [thats the maximum power my cpu can consume, right] as thats its tdp. OR do u have any better way of checking it.

    keep me posted....

lol, at first I had 50+ minute back on my rig with a generic 450w psu with everything on, movie+music+ browsing etc. Now for a month or so I get 10 minute backup max with browsing & music/movie. Several times thought of calling the RA guyz but I was just too lazy to do that. Aaj dei kaal dei kore deyai hoyna . . . . . . I guess the batteries are ¤¤¤¤ed. Gonna give it to them by friday.

Chillax, its the backup that counts. If you get satisfactory back up, I don't see a problem there. Btw how long did they say it will take to do the job??? Imma send mine too, you see.

ok, i guess u r right...[i was just thinking that since u got 30 mins playing crysis 2 etc etc... ah wat the hell]... but can u give me a simple method to test the ups backup time when they come tomorrow... anyways, thanks for all the feedback... been a great help....

well, they said that it would take 1 day for them to test the battery and stuff. so they should be back with my ups tomorrow. so yeah, it takes 1 day.
and as for the satisfactory question above, well, i guess i am taking @Vanguard results as the standard results and i expect my ups to behave somewhat similarly like his meaning giving a backup time of about 60 mins with light web-browsing [no video streaming]. cause i was quite satisfied with my c2d e8400 for 12,500 taka back in 2008 and now i'll get twice that performance for the same money or less in a core i3. so my satisfaction level changes. right now, if i get backup time near abt vanguard's, i'll be very happy...
