Default Nokia Lumia 820, 920 leak out: PureView coming to Windows Phone

The new Nokia Lumias have leaked out and they bring great news for Windows Phone fans - Nokia is bringing its PureView imaging technology to Windows Phone 8 with a monster 4.5-inch Nokia Lumia 920, designed in Nokia’s best N9/Lumia 800 traditions and with great new colors, at least if this here leak proves true.

Along with it comes a lesser specced and non-PureView 4.3-inch Nokia Lumia 820 with equally colorful jazzy looks and probably a more affordable price.

Both the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Lumia 820 seem to focus on the camera with Carl Zeiss lenses on both gadgets.

We don't know the actual resolution of the allegedy Lumia 920 PureView camera, but so far we've heard speculation that a PureView Windows Phone Lumia could sport a 21-megapixel sensor. This would allow the PureView oversampling technology to combine four pixels into one super pixel when you shoot at 5 megapixels, which in turn would mean less noise and better performance in low light conditions, as well as some non-degrading zoom capability (not just plain digital zoom). Still, in all likelihood this won't be exactly like the monster 41-megapixel sensor on the Nokia 808 PureView Symbian device, but somewhat less capable. On the bright side of things - you don't have to deal with a huge bulge on the back of the device, and the upcoming Lumia 920 definitely looks very, very sleek, much better than the bulky 808 PureView.

We love the colors on both the Lumia 920 and 820. That amazing yellow and vivid, almost crimson red right in the middle seem to set the new trend for Nokia Windows Phones.

As good and veritable as it sounds, this is still a leak so the final handsets Nokia unveils on September 5th might differ from what we see here. Still, to us it seems that there is all likelihood that those images are legit. If so, there will be a lot to get hyped up about in less than a week.

How do you like what you see? Could that be your future phone right here?

Nokia Lumia 820 4.3-inch Windows Phone leaks

An image of the Nokia Lumia 820 has been leaked by Twitter user evleaks. The 820 apparently has a 4.3-inch display, and if you squint you'll make out "Carl Zeiss" on the camera lens, but not much more is known at this point. It looks though this is the mid-range "Arrow" handset we reported on last week, which is set to launch on AT&T and T-Mobile in the US. A variant codenamed Atlas is bound for Verizon later on. Nokia has a press event on September 5th where we're expecting it to unveil the Lumia 820 alongside the just-leaked flagship, the Lumia 920 with PureView.

Exclusive: Nokia Lumia 920 to include wireless charging, 32GB storage, and 8-megapixel camera

Nokia will introduce its latest Lumia 920 handset at a special event with Microsoft on Wednesday September 5th, we have learned. Images of the Lumia 920 leaked last weekand we have been able to confirm them with multiple sources. The Lumia 920 will be Nokia's new flagship Windows Phone and will include some impressive hardware specifications to match. According to sources familiar with the company's Windows Phone plans, Nokia is packaging wireless charging with its Lumia 920.

    WIRELESS CHARGING, WITH STANDARDS SUPPORT
Lumia 920 wireless charging support will be provided via an inductive method — lining the device up to the contacts on a charging pad. We're told it will support the Qi wireless power standard — making it compatible with other wireless charging products. Aside from the charging aspect, Nokia's Lumia 920 will also include 32GB of device storage, 1GB of RAM, and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. We have also been able to confirm that it will include a 4.5-inch HD display.

    PUREVIEW, BUT NOT REALLY PUREVIEW

One rumored aspect of the Lumia 920 is a PureView camera. We can confirm that Nokia will indeed brand its Lumia 920 camera as PureView, but that the camera will be an 8-megapixel one — not the 41-megapixel one found on the company's 808 PureView handset. Nokia is focusing on marketing the Lumia 920 as PureView thanks to some advancements in image stabilization and camera software that it plans to ship on the device. The front of the device will also include a 1.3-megapixel camera.

We're expecting Nokia to announce the device on Wednesday for AT&T customers initially, with a launch date expected in late October or early November.

Update: An image of the charging pad for Nokia's Windows Phone 8 lumia range has leaked.

Nokia Lumia 820 and 920's wireless charging pad revealed

Both the Lumia 820 and 920 — expected to be announced at an event in New York this Wednesday — are believed to feature wireless charging, and the evidence grows this morning with the leak of an image showing the models on their charging pad. The pad looks to be nearly as long as the phone itself with a single cord trailing off into the distance (presumably connecting to a USB port), but if rumors of Qi compatibility are true, it's conceivable that owners of the phone will be able to use a variety of pads from other manufacturers as well; Verizon, for instance, offers Qi wireless charging on a number of its smartphones.

We'll know more in two days' time.
