Default Help my buy a GPU

Hey Guys! I urgently have to buy a new Graphics card, so I was hoping that you guys would help me out with which graphics card to buy. I would like to play the upcoming games especially Crysis 3 as well as Medal of Honor Warfighter (which by the way is using Frostbite 2 engine), Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Hitman Absolution, Assassin's Creed 3, Far Cry 3, ArmA 3 etc. And please keep in mind that I will be playing at 1360x768 resolution which is the maximum for my 18.5 inch monitor & I actually prefer it over big displays so I’m not changing the monitor anytime soon.

My configuration is: Intel Core i7 870 2.93 GHz, Intel DH55TC Motherboard, 4GB RAM, GPU (Current): XFX Nvidia 8600GT, 1 TB Samsung HDD, Thermaltake TR2 420W PSU, an ASUS DVD-ROM & built in sound card.

Now considering my configuration which I stated above, which GPU do you think will be the best fit? How about GTX 550 Ti? My friend bought an “Elite GTX550” few months back and he says it runs all the games at high settings. But he also mentioned that when he plays either Crysis 2 or Battlefield 3, it starts to make a little more noise and the GPU get a bit more heated on the surface which does not happen when he is playing other games. And by the way, he also has an 18.5 inch monitor (hence 1360x768 resolution) as I do.

This brings me to another issue. My friend has a Thermaltake Lite 650W PSU while I have a Thermaltake TR2 420W PSU. And we both have Intel i7 based PCs. Do I need to buy a new PSU for GTX 550Ti?

And by the way, 550Ti of which brand is the best, Gigabyte, ASUS, Elite or some other brand?

So what do you guys think? You are welcome to suggest GPUs other than 550Ti (for example 560Ti or even ATI GPUs) but please try to keep it within my budget of Tk. 15 – 20 thousand. If possible please suggest names of good shops from where I can buy it.

And one last question, will I be able to run XFX Nvidia GeForce 8600GT in a PC consisting of Intel D915GAV Motherboard, Pentium 4 3.00GHz HT processor, 500GB SATA hard disk, Samsung DVD ROM with a normal/common 350W PSU? Or do I have to get a PSU for that as well? Please feel free to give suggestions. I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks!!!

I would like to suggest 6850oc or ecs 560 non ti + a good psu such as TT Smart 550w which Should cost you around 22-23k in total. You can increase the budget by selling your current psu.

And answer for the last question is YES.

Thanks all of you guys for your suggestions. I really appreciate it. So I think I'm going to get the GTX 560. Now should I get ECS or Gigabyte or MSI/ASUS/XFX or some other brand? Given that the price of ECS version is less than the Gigabyte or MSI version, is there any performance or reliability issue with the ECS version? I should also mention that I'm not going to overclock the GPU or anything else and I will use 1360x768 resolution. And also, will a Thermaltake Lite 650W PSU be able to run this card properly with my current configuration given that I'm considering adding a second hard disk with 2TB capacity? I would really appreciate your suggestions. Thanks again to all of you for help.

Thanks for all of your suggestions guys. I really appreciate it. And by the way, I bought the Gigabyte GTX560 (Non Ti or OC version).

    Thanks again...
