Default Apple proves Samsung is a copycat :P

Apple valuation up by $1 billion now .........

    http://gizmodo.com/5937762/samsung-v...g-big-updating

The federal court jury in the patent infringement lawsuit between Apple and Samsung has presented its verdict after deliberating for just for 21 hours and 37 minutes following the three week trial. This particular case started with Apple's lawsuit last April and now the jury's decision is that Samsung did infringe on Apple's bounceback patent with all 21 of its products in question. For the patent on pinch-and-zoom, the jury ruled all but three of the devices listed infringed, and more damningly, found that Samsung executives either knew or should have known their products infringed on the listed patents. The jury has also found against Samsung when it comes to Apple's contours on the back of the iPhone and its home screen GUI. The Galaxy Tab however was found not to have infringed upon Apple's iPad design patents. The bad news for Samsung continues, as the jury decided that not only did it willfully infringe on five of the seven Apple patents, but it also upheld their validity.

The amount of the damages against Samsung is in: $1,051,855,000.00.

The jury comes back – Apple crushes Samsung at trial, gets Billions in damages and Microsoft wins!

This is a FANTASTIC day to be Microsoft!

Today, the deliberating jury in the Samsung vs Apple case came back and returned several affirmative votes in Apple’s favor.

They said unanimously that Samsung infringed several of Apple’s patents.

They awarded Apple over 2.3 Billion dollars!

    Some highlights:

    • The jury found Samsung infringement of Apple utility, design patents for some (though not all) products
    • The jury upheld Apple utility, design patents
    • The jury upheld Apple trade dress ’983
    • The jury found Samsung “diluted” Apple’s registered iPhone, iPhone 3 and “Combination iPhone” trade dress on some products, not on others
    • The jury found no Apple infringement of Samsung utility patents
    • The jury found Samsung violated antitrust law by monopolizing markets related to the UMTS standard

Thet’s big news but here’s the real news as far as I am concerned.

Google and Samsung lose big today!

This is devastating for Samsung’s reputation, devastating to their wallets and devastating to their products both on the market and in development.

Samsung have to take a very critical look at all their designs and products to make sure they don’t release any more products that continue to violate Apple’s patents.

In addition, Samsung competitors and other Google Android partners will have to study these patents to make sure that they aren’t in a similar position and (now) exposed to Apple’s wrath.

    Here’s the kicker..

    Microsoft wins big today!!

Indirectly, the Android UI was on trial and it has been shown to be dangerously close to Apple’s UI in a court of law.

Even if you make the claim that Samsung’s enhancements to the Android UI are the problems at fault today, this still freezes a lot of Apple competitors who were looking at going in Google’s direction.

Guess what the net effect is?

I have to imagine that Microsoft’s ecosystem just got a LOT more attractive if you’re an OEM.

Say what you will about the Windows 8 ecosystem, the one thing you CANNOT say is that it looks like ANYTHING Apple have done.

Windows 8, it’s Metro interface and it’s look and feel are uniquely Microsoft’s.

Google (in my mind) is the big loser today.

    What do you think?

Let's herp a derp, and move on.

I doubt 2 billions is anything to the Korean conglomerate, their heavy industries alone is far larger than that.

Utter damn nonsense. Google lost nothing, Samsung did. Sounds like nothing but rants and speculation from MS fanboys. Only time will tell how 'victorious' MS is in the phone/tablet market, so far they have failed miserably.

You can't deny the fact that Microsoft already taken 59% share of the global windows phone market from 22% share January 2012.
And I am not a fan boy bro, I always say the truth. I even say that windows phone is not the perfect smartphone OS, but its improving and going to be the best. Just watch and see.
Iphone is also one of the best smartphone but its useless in our Bangladesh because we don't have a good internet connection. And I also believe that its a man's personal choice for which one he wants to buy/use. You can't be rude for that.
And last but not the least No one can be the KING forever.

Not surprising: Nokia dominates the Windows Phone market

As of this past January, Nokia wasn't even in the US market with Windows Phone, and had just 22% of the worldwide Windows Phone market. Now, Nokia holds 32% of the US market, and a whopping 59% of the worldwide market.

Nokia's success comes at the price of Samsung and HTC though. Samsung's US WP market share dropped from 36% to 26% in the first 7 months of 2012, and its worldwide share dropped from 23% to 13%. HTC has been hit the hardest though. HTC still holds the majority of the US WP market at 36%, but that is down from 54% in January, and worldwide HTC's share has dropped from 44% to just 21%.

First of all, I am not your 'bro'. Second, I never said you are lying, but saying stuff like 'Google is the loser' or 'but its improving and going to be the best.' is nonsense. It could be 'one' of the best, but 'the' best? We shall see in time. And that article you linked implied blind fanboyism and speculation.

Sure MS is 'expected' to make a comeback, so is Android - 'However big the iPhone 5 might be, Android is expected to widen its lead from 60% of the smartphone market in the first half of 2012 to 70% in the second half'

And, it is not a formidable surprise that Nokia is dominating the WP market when there are only 3 major company producing WP phones - Nokia, Samsung, and HTC. And out of those three, Samsung and HTC are too busy producing phones for Android.

Nokia and WP still has a very long way to go before taking over Apple's or Android's phone market share. I guess Samsung and HTC completely stop producing Android phones would help, but doubt that will happen any time soon.

Apple vs. Samsung verdict: It doesn't matter - http://www.zdnet.com/apple-vs-samsun...er-7000003164/

I find myself agreeing whole-heartily with the Electronic Frontier Foundation, “Our patent system is intended to incentivize innovation, in theory at least. Lately it’s become little more than a tool to squelch competition, and it’s not just the Apples and the Samsungs of the world who find themselves fighting these battles. It’s also small and innovative companies, local governments, foreign companies trying to make it in America, hobbyists, and even individual developers. … Apple v. Samsung is not the problem in itself, but it’s a symptom of a broken system.”

Paying 1 or 2 billions is still good enough for samsung. Because, they were banking on apple's R&D in the 1st place.

Samsung's executives had their math done long time back and they knew something like this is coming AND they've already made enough to pay the due . I would say samsung is still the winner from monetary point of view.

But their reputation is about to get a big dent OFFICIALLY, which will pave the way for microsoft to shine back with something genuinely unique.

There's also another threat to Andeoid now. Considering that Samsung is e largest producer of android phones and they got sued, its only a matter of time when the other small players will be fined as well, eventually they'll go after the big dog, Google, who have been shamelessly hiding behind the OEMs for a ridiculously long period of time.

None of this will even touch Google, you'll see
All it is, is a pissing contest between two individual manufacturers. Suing Google would mean the same as suing Microsoft for acts of Hacking being conducted on the Windows operating system.
