    1. can i3 2100 handle a 6970, 7950, 7870?
    2. if 7950, 7870 is used in PCIe 2.0(as Sandy Bridge supports up to 2.0) how much performance will have to be compromised for not having an Ivy Bridge?
    1. Yes, it can handle those GPUs just fine. Make sure you use 1080p or higher and I got this from a reputed user(not on this forums) that his i3 runs his 7970 which is clocked to like 1200 perfectly just as his 2500k(excluding games like SC2), give or take.

    2. None. You only need PCIe 3.0 when you want a Quad/Tri SLI/CF. The extra b/w helps(scaling) when using resolution 1440p or higher.

May be your motherboard orientation is different, thats why it causes trouble.

If you dont intend to buy an ssd anytime soon, there is no point in buying a B75 over H61. No extra feature except the SataIII port and that second second PCIE slot is a PCIE 2.0 x4 aka PCIE 1.0 x8 slot And i dont think if you buy an i3 2100 now, after 6 months, when Haswell will arrive, you'll go for a 22nm Ivy Bridge then.

A good 550w will suffice. If you've a good budget look into the Toughpowers or buy the lower end Smart Powers from Tt.
