It seems to help slightly with Photoshop. But the only reason I tried it was because my laptop has Windows 7 x86 on it, and I couldn't be bothered to reinstall the whole thing, so it was the only way I could use the entire 4GB of RAM.
I can't comment on gaming performance because my laptop is a Pentium 6100 IGP, so I don't game on it except for Serious Sam.
If you want to try it, Dataram's RAMDISK is what I use. It has the handy advantage of letting you save your contents to disk when shutting down so you can also have persistent cache, for example. Slows down boot a bit but operation is still snappy.
