    Default Sound related question

Recently i've bought a sennheiser hd 558 and a x fi titanium hd. I was thinking which sound settings i should use to get the best sound experience in games like bf3? Also if i select 5.1 speaker setting (not in creative control panel) instade of stereo in sound option in control panel, shall i get better sound experience in games or in hd movies which has dts support?

I am a newbie when it comes to sound related matter so it would be very helpful if someone can suggest best softwares and codecs for playing HD movies and HD audio songs.

Since you 're using just analogue stereo headphones, leave dts out of the question, since dts does not relate to your case unless you 're going digital, say for example DTS encoded signal thru TiHD's optical out> decoding reciver/some sort of headphone mixamp that decodes digital to analogue stereo> headphones.

You may turn on CMSS 3D from Creative 's control panel for games, it 's a love or hate thing and I personally hate these surround sound emulation programs such as CMSS 3d/Dolby headphone as it seriously alters definition, image and characteristic of the original sound. But there are many out there who love it and believe to be benefited from it, especially while gaming.
I honestly admit though, that CMSS 3D has been tremendously improved in the Titanium HD through THX TruStudio Pro compared to the previous gen X-fis. To turn on CMSS 3D in Entertainment mode go into THX>Surround>On. To turn it on in Game mode, there 's a tab already which says X-Fi CMSS 3D, all you have to do is click the tab and check 'Enable' on the right pane.

Selecting 5.1 speakers in windows speaker configuration will not benefit anything unless you enable CMSS 3D along with it.

Apart from all that, enabling crystalizer and setting it at around 2% helps identify movements and gives better separation as it boosts the treble and bass a litl bit, the kind of boost that EQ fails to bring. You may have it set at higher than 2%, it 's personal taste, i feel the sound to be ridiculously altered when crystalizer goes above 2%.

When playing DTS media, i noticed there is significant volume boost when switching from stereo to 5.1 speaker configuration in windows control panel. Not only volume is boosted but also without 5.1, the direction of sound (sound stage?) is not very enjoyable. Why this is happening?
