Default Need help to build a future proof desktop without luxury.

    I already have-
    1. Monitor.
    2. 2x1TB HDD (1 WU Black Edition 64MB Cache, 1 32MB Cache Toshiba) (Around 6 yrs old)
    3. 1x2TB SSHD (Seagate) (Brand New)
    4. 1xThermaltake 500watt power supply (8-9 yrs old, currently not in use)
    5. 1xGigabyte 350watt power supply (6-7 yrs old, currently not in use)

What will be current usage of this new build:
    1. Workstation, maltitasking, playing with multimedia (video editing mainly), it must have 32GB ram. (During work I have to keep open many application and so many browsing tab)
    2. Casual Gaming (Racing/Sport/Fantasy).
    3. Will use it for around 6 hours a day.

    What about future:
Planning to try more game mainly VR after 1yr may be.

When I need to finish this build:
    Within 1-2 month.

You seem reasonably knowledgeable so I'm gonna give you straight.

    1) Wait for Intel Coffee Lake (Intel® Core™ 8000 series) processor. Global release October. In BD, a few months after.

    6 core 12 thread Core i7 and 6 core 6 thread i5 vs current gen 4 core 8 thread i7 and 4 core 4 thread i5 (Intel® Core™ 7000 series)

    OR

Buy AMD Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 processor now. 4 core 8 thread or 6 core 12 thraed or 8 core 16 thread depending on model. Great multitasking capability in reasonable price with slight deficit in raw single core/thread performance vs its Intel competition.

    2) 4x8GB 32GB memory kits should/WILL pose a little problem for the Ryzen system. But not to worry if you find a 2x16GB kit.

Should be no problem for either Intel System (7000 or upcoming 8000 series).

    3) Since your chosen genres are mostly casual, you shouldn't need raw single core/thread performance of Intel processors.

But it could for fantasy titles such as WoW and older engine based fantasy games because they cannot properly utilize Ryzen's multi core and rely more on raw single core performance and clock speed (Intel's advantage).

But also remember that Intel's clock speed advantage is only on two of its models. An i5 and an i7. You can't increase clock speed of other i5 or i7.

But every Ryzen chip can be overclocked, overcoming their slight deficit against their Intel counterparts.

Overall you could by Ryzen now or you could wait for Coffee Lake.

P.S. VR is dead. Don't bother.

Either get Ryzen 7 right now or wait for Intel's 8th Gen i7. Get an SSD for OS and Application & a brand New 80+ Gold PSU (forget those old PSU)

Not sure what kind of feedback you are looking for, the only difference is the processor and motherboard downgrade and I'm sure you already know the difference between the two.

Don't wanted to compare these two.
Suggest me if I have to add/remove something to make these config right. Also suggest me about gpu.
