    Iron Maiden

    ----

Iron maiden - Dance of Death
    Society vaporizing - Uncreating, reprimanding
Antithesis, preeminence, dead sacrament - Barbaric
Rapture in peace, calm misery - Aberrant, sacrificing
    Origin - Antithesis

Guilt upon the conscience, like rust upon iron, both defiles and consumes it, gnawing and creeping into it , as that does which at last eats out the very heart and substance of the metal. Amen!

Bullet for my Valentine is metalcore - that's not real metal, but kinda fun to listen too

Guns and roses are not metal they are Hard Rock (Awesome though)

    Now for my favorites

Metallica - Almost all songs from the first 5 albums ( a world of metal cannot be imagined without Metallica)

Megadeth - Tornado of Souls/ Hangar 18/ Five Magics

Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss/ War Ensemble

Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark

    Black Sabbath - Paranoid

Symphony X - Paradise Lost/ Eve of Seduction

    Pantera - Cemetery Gates

Judas Priest - Night Crawler/ Turbo Lover

    Annihilator - Alison Hell

Wintersun - Death and the Healing

    Helloween - We Burn

Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven ( Not metal but has to be on the list)

Even though I listen to almost everything, melodic death metal is my favourite genre. I'm not gonna try to rank my favourite metal bands as there are many sub-genre specific bands that I really like, not necessarily more or less than the others. So, I'm just gonna stick to melodeath in this post.

Favourite artists (in no particular order):

    • Insomnium
    • Arch Enemy
    • In Flames (earlier albums)
    • Dark Tranquility
    • Kalmah

Favourite songs (in no particular order):

    • Down With The Sun - Insomnium
    • Nemesis - Arch Enemy
    • Equivalence - Insomnium
    • Only For The Weak - In Flames
    • Unsung - Insomnium
    • Bloodstained Cross - Arch Enemy

If anyone is interested in melodeath, 'Across The Dark' (2009) by Insomnium would be a good starting point. The reason I suggest this album to anyone new to melodeath is that it's a superb album that is filled with emotion and atmosphere. 'Equivalence', an extremely atmospheric intro track, builds up slowly featuring minimal vocals towards the end. It is followed by a true masterpiece, 'Down With The Sun', that features one of the best harmonized riff I have ever heard in their tracks. Each progression of notes personifies beautiful sadness. The other tracks are also unique in their own ways. 'The Lay of Autumn' is a slow yet excellent piece that features an atmospheric intro and a nice blend of clean and growling vocals. 'Weighed Down With Sorrow', the closing track, starts with a minute long violin followed by a crushing riff tied in with the lyrics, creating a feeling of despair. This album simply drips high class and lush, yet tear-stained atmospherics at every single turn.

Pretty tough question actually! Well, there are a whole bunch of tracks I listen quite frequently from those bands I stated earlier. Mentioning a very few below,

Insomnium: Bereavment, Devoid Of Caring, The Killjoy, Change Of Heart, Drawn To Black, Down With The Sun.

Amon Amarth: Valhall Awaits Me, Runes to My Memory, Gods of War Arise, Cry of the Black Birds, Guardians of Asgaard, Destroyer of the Universe.

Kalmah: Moon of My Night, The Groan of Wind, Towards the Sky, Rust Never Sleeps.

Be'lakor: Neither Shape Nor Shadow, Tre'aste.

Quo Vadis: Silence Calls The Storm, Dead Man's Diary, Absolution (Element of the Ensemble III).

    Enjoy !
