Default Internet connection to face problem in 3/4 days for trouble in submarine cable

    Around 18 hours ago

    FE Report

Internet connection of the country will face problem in next three to four days for a trouble in the submarine cable of Chennai to Singapore line, said an official of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Ltd (BSCCL).

The submarine cable authority is trying to communicate with the Mumbai Network Operation Centre (MNOC,) the proper authority for management the line, for a solution to the problem.

Deputy General Manager of BSCCL Mohammad Shakhawat Hossain, who is in charge of Cox's Bazar Landing Station of Submarine Cable, told the FE Wednesday that they identified the problem in segment-1 (Chennai to Singapore) where the submarine cable has been cut.

He said, "It will take 3 to 4 days to repair the cable and over this time the internet connection will be somewhat slow".

Currently, the country has no back-up or alternative line if the lone submarine cable faces any trouble.

At present, BSCCL is the only one source for providing bandwidth of internet connection.

The government recently approved setting up of a second submarine cable as an alternative which will take three years to be implemented.

Besides, the government issued six international terrestrial cable (ITC) licences in January this year for giving bandwidth supply as alternative sources. According to the condition of the licence, the ITC operator will have to come to the market within six months.

Has everyone's speed returned to normal? I'm still getting shitty downloading and browsing speeds. My "technicians" of my ISP are still saying that its because of submarine cable problems. They even posted this on their facebook page:
    Dear Valued Subscribers,

This is to inform you that according to the last update received from BSCCL, SMW4 consortium has made a plan of work for cable repair and repeater replacement. Cable repair will take place on 12th July,2012 and repeater replacement work will take place on 23rd July,2012.

The total restoration works will be completed on 2nd August,2012.

Mango entire team is working hard to improve the situation and will inform you the update time to time.

    With regards,
    Brisk Systems Ltd
