Lightbulb Need advice buying a GTX 1070.

Hello my dear brothers at BG,

I think the time has come to upgrade from my R9 280X which has served me very well for 3 years. I'll pass it on to my niece when I get my hands on a 1070.

Considering how the RX 580 prices are through the roof, I decided to stretch my budget to 47K and now looking to get a GTX 1070 next month.

Unfortunately, most of the GTX 1070s are out of stock in BD, does anyone know when they r gonna be restocked?

After they get restocked, are they going to be ridiculously expensive due to the mining craze?

Which brand/model of GTX 1070 should I go for? (Reminder: Budget is not a penny more than 47K BDT)

Your help would be well appreciated.

Zotac or Gigabyte. ASUS and/or MSI costs too much. BTW Vega is finally here
My probable next build: Qisan MagicForce 68 (Outemu switch) / Teamwolf Zhuque+ 87 TKL (Outemu) / Monoprice Select series full size (Outemu/Gateron) / Drevo Gramr 84 TKL (Outemu) • Logitech G102 Prodigy • Deepcool Dukase V3 / Thermaltake Versa U21 • Superlux HD 681 • Creative Sound Blaster E1 • LG 22MP68VQ • SteelSeries QcK • Generic executive chair • others TBA

djrock please don't bother me. You are in my ignore list so I don't have to see literal poop.

It is indeed. But according to all the benchmarks I just saw, it's not all that interesting at all. The Vega 56 and GTX 1070 are neck and neck at the moment. Vega 56 may gain like 10-12% increase in performance in the coming months depending on how well the AIB cards perform and AMD driver updates- but it's still nothing to get excited about when compared to the 1070

To OP: are all 1070s out of the market? I think I saw like one available at Startech weeks ago. Although I'm guessing they should get restocked pretty soon. Price shall remain the same unless Nvidia decides to drop the prices to compete with Vega, which is highly unlikely

Thanks for suggestion. Zotac is a lesser known brand so won't go with that. So, I am eyeing the Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming one but it is out of stock at Startech. Link

    Here's hoping the 1070 prices don't increase.

I checked the startech website, all the 1070s are out of stock. UCC has the Zotac mini available only but am not interested in that. Vega is a disappointment to me, arriving so late with so little performance improvement and poor efficiency compared to pascal. I don't even want to wait for aftermarket vega and I never buy reference cards.

As far as the price/performance ratio is concerned, I would have waited for the Vega 56 (not Vega 64) to hit the market as it has smashed 1070 in every sect and even on par with 1080 in some benches. The Vega 64 and 56 have officially launched today (August 14).

    Source: Techpower up
Battlefield 1 (Ultra settings): 95.4 FPS (GTX 1070: 72.2 FPS; 32% in favor of Vega 56)
Civilization 6 (Ultra settings, 4x MSAA): 85.1 FPS (GTX 1070: 72.2 FPS; 17% in favor of Vega 56)
DOOM (Ultra settings, 8x TSAA): 101.2 FPS (GTX 1070: 84.6 FPS; 20% in favor of Vega 56)
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (High preset): 99.9 FPS (GTX 1070: 92.1 FPS; 8% in favor of Vega 56)

And it's only the early results, meaning vega will become more compatible in time with driver releases. at $400 MSRP (hopefully miners won't bother with the vega) this is already named as the 1070 killer.

    More on this:
    - Tweaktown.com: AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 leaked benchmarks: GTX 1070 killer
    - Anandtech: The AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 & RX Vega 56 Review: Vega Burning Bright
    - PCGamer: The AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 and Vega 64 review
    - WCCFTECH: AMD’s Radeon RX Vega 56 Graphics Card Is Allegedly Faster Than A GTX 1070 – Gaming Benchmarks Leaked

Here is linustechtips review uploaded today:

Only couple of downsides now as far as all the reviews have mentioned are it's a power hunger and this would be the next buying target for miners as AMD's polaris architecture is better equipped for mining than the NVidias.

But, then again, the power will have a limited effect even if you play 4 hours of games everyday and AMD might intentionally hold up VBIOS driver updates as it's always committed to gamers instead (see pcgamer review for a full understanding).

NOTE: Even if you still would like to go for a 1070 for better driver support or power efficiency, I would still recommend waiting as Vega release will definitely make NVidia lower the price of 1070s and 1080s.

    Hope it helps!

Did you change your tune after watching a few more benchmarks that does show the Vega 56 beating the 1070 in most of the games tested?
Yeah wouldn't blame you though- I'm pretty much on the same rocky boat. Not sure whether to wait for Vega 56 or just get a 1070 now

If I can't get my hands on a decently priced Gigabyte GTX 1070 Xtreme Gaming then I'll look into what the Vega 56 has to offer. Its only a matter of time now.
