Thread: Need suggestions for good case airflow

  1. #1

Default Need suggestions for good case airflow

So my GPUhits 83c in many games. And I just realized that my card never goes above 83c either. So it means my GPU is thermal throttling. Its probably because I don't have any fans in the back of my case, and I got only one fan infront of the case [which seems to push air out of the case since my hand feels cold when I put it near the fan].

So, I need to keep my GPU under 75c. I've been told to add fans that will suck air through front and push it out from the back. But I need to know the details. Because adding fans and not dropping below 80c is useless. Here are some pictures of my Case:

So my GPU is at middle and the GPU fans are facing downwards. But I can add a fan only at the top back part of my case [as seen in that picture].

I can add two fans in front of my case.

I don't know if adding fans on the top will be of any help. The CPU cooler is too close to the top anyway and adding fans at top might just block airflow.

PSU is at bottom. And between PSU and GPU, there is no place for fans at all. Is there anyway to keep my GPU cool? What kind of coolers will be good for this case. Thanks in advance.

After you are done watching the above video, Buy some incense smoke sticks from local shops and let the holy smoke guide your through.
Or if you are a smoker you can just light one up which would do the trick as well.

The front should be intake. The top and back should be exhaust.

Buy CM Sickleflows for the front. They push out a lot of air. And put some cheap low rpm Tt or sth fan for the exhaust. Cause it'd be counter-productive if exhaust sickleflows suck out all the air the intakes brought.

Fix cable clutter. It'll just block the air path.

The theory is quite easy. Front intakes suck in cold air (at least colder compared to inside the case), GPU and CPU fans use the cold air to cool the heatsink and with the contact cold air becomes hot. Hot air is comparatively lighter than cold air so it tends to rise up. So top and back exhaust pump out the hot air to make room for the cold air brought on by the intake.

The last line is important. You see, for air to travel it needs both intake and exhaust to be clear. For example my room is getting loads of wind today. So I can just close my windows a la the intake be done with it. Ahaha but it also closes sunlight and I become a shut-in-NEET. So what do I do? I just close te room's door a la exhaust. Ehhh??? The wind stopped. How? Cause the air inside my room is stuck and blocking the winds coming from the wondows.

Thank you. So I'm getting 2 intake fans for front, and one exhaust fans for back. Not adding any fans on top. But there are too much holes at top, causing dust to enter and killing my GPU. What should I do with the top?

Haha funny, but helpful. Do I have to take the guts outta my case first? Will the smokes kill my pc parts? Do you have any personal experience with it?

vai re vai ke tomar cable management kore dise ? i wanna see his face xD . tbh you don't really need any extra fans but if you wish to then buy some exhaust fans and place them in back of your casing and put some at the top of the casing radiator type ar ki like watercoolers . ar you should definitely consider buying a good casing atleast to arrange your cables back or buy some sleeve cables and arrange them

Like I said install an exhaust fan on top or just keep it bare for hot air to travel. Ar uporer chhidrogular cheye fangula aro dust tane. So brush off dust every two or three months.

    Man, do cable management first.

Then add cm jetflo and a fan controller like nzxt sentry. Jetflo will sound like jet engine so u need to lower the record rpm when u r not doing anything task intensive, and then run them in full mode when u r gaming or doing something intensive.

my top gpu max temp is 65c and stays in low 60 all the time. Bottom gpu stays in mid to high fifties. Right now i am playing mass effect andromeda and dcom 2 at 1440p kaxed out. This temp was the same when i played bf1, witcher 3 or gta v.

Interestingly, CPU temps stay at 65c. HDD temps at 40-60c. But GPU hits 83c and its way to far away from cpu and hdd and in more congested area. Getting scared as ¤¤¤ now. I have locked games to 30fps and 720p until I get coolers, to keep temps low.

Have u made a custom fan curve using MSI Afterburner?

If u know how to take the graphics card out, try cleaning out the dust in the gpu fan and heatsink, doing just that brought my temps down by 5C which is not bad at all.

If ur games r not so graphics intensive then downclocking and undervolting a bit might actually help before u get the case fans.

Yeah, I already have a custom fan curve to keep my GPU cool enough. And also my GPU fan us always running at 30% when under 40%. That way the fan doesn't stop and start which makes rattling noise. Here's my fan curve. But at 83c, my fans are at 95%. I heard setting 100% fan speed will kill my fans.

Unfortunately all the games I play are demanding. So I cant downclock my GPU. Only low end game is Spooder man 3 but I have to play that game at 4k at 4x MSAA or the sky glitches out at lower resolutions if I turn on fullscreen effects [even had the same problem on my friends 1080 Ti, so I guess its Nvidia driver problem].

Clean out the dust using a blower or compressed air can.

Another option is that u could apply new thermal paste (e.g. arctic silver 5) if u can . There's loads of tutorials on youtube, its not too hard once u get the hang of it.

Btw, open up the casing and fix the cables.

That's as far as I can help. Good luck!

Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate your help. I will first try to clean the fans, and heatsink of my GPU and add fans to see if my temps decrease. If it's still hot, then I will try to add thermal paste and hopefully not fry it in the process.

But it will take a long time. I will revive this thread when I'm done cleaning my PC.

    Again, I appreciate the help.
