hence max overclock is (105-100)x31=155 Mhz
to change base clock you will be needing a good mobo.
    pairing a i3 2100 with a p67/z68 board is almost pointless.
and lastly 155 Mhz overclock over stock clocks......rather have the processor run at stock settings

the processor can work with much higher clocked ram but the h61 chipset (or the motherboard with h61 chipset) cannot. It is limited up to ram rated at 1333 Mhz

unless you OC your i3 540(the base clock atleast at 160 mhz and NB/IMC atleast (160X15)2400mhz, your ram should run at 1333mhz.

NorthBridge(aka memory controller hub or MCH) & Integrated memory controller(for nehlam/SB). the default NB frequency for nehlam i3 is probably 2128mhz iirc(133*16x). it will automatically rise up to 2560 mhz(160*16x) if you set the base clock at 160 mhz....

EDIT: i3 2100's integrated memory controller is also locked for 533/667 mhz. so it won't be able to support anything more than 1333mhz (i was a bit wrong in my previous post)

you want to buy a 3 year old processor just to run 1600Mhz rams??? GOD help you.

and for the question yes even if you install 2133Mhz rams on h61/h67 mobos, it will run at 1333Mhz, so ya you can run A-data xpgs @1333MHz on a h61mobo.

vaiya,if i overclock i3 530/540 to 4ghz and use a 1600mhz ram may be i'll overclock it to 1800mhz then there is every chance to get better performance than i3 2100 with 1333bus.i don't have enough knowledge but i am thinking it myself...

That is a very wrong idea.I3 540 is a good processor but dont make the mistake of comparing it with 2n gen 2100.Actually there is no copetition.2100 is way ahed of any first gen i3.Don't measure a processor with there base clock speed. What matters most in pro buying is its architechture and performance per core ratio.Where 2nd gen i3 is way ahed. And u can definately use that ram with h61 which will run in 1333 mhz which is not a small frequency by any means.

i3 has 2 cores where x4 got 4 cores... so decide wisely.

core i3 2100 with a h61 mobo, best buy within your budget.and dont buy an inferior processor for using 1600 mhz ram.its a difference with 1333 mhz u cant even realize.so dont waste your money buying a first gen processor.and i think you are upgrading for gaming.i3 2100 is tested for the gaming and has better gaming performance check this http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/t...2100-tested/20.and decide.
