Ubuntu Linux 12.04 Released

Hi guys,

I'm not sure if any of you know what Linux is or even wanted to find out anything about it but I'm not gonna waste your time elaborating how Linux is faster, better and more secure than Windows or any other god damn Operating System....I'll let you do your own research.

But today just like the title says, the new stable, long term release version of Ubuntu 12.04 got released.

Yes may be some of you guys are really excited in trying it out and some may not have even heard about the word Linux in their lifetime.

Lol....well it's not about liking the UI...the thing about using Linux is that it's meant to be customised. It's way lot customisable in every possible way...starting from themes, to fonts, login screen, everything you want...which I think is kind of restricted on Windows unless you use some custom apps.

What do you think about these?

That's great...actually if I had zero experience with Gentoo and I was starting off or I was about to install Linux on someone's computer who is not that technical...I would rather go for Mint than Ubuntu. I just hate all that unity BS ubuntu is going after...imo it may be good for tablets but I personally would prefer Mint cos everything is pre-installed which is a whole lot convenient than installing all those codecs and everything from scratch.

Unity is pos, I snagged the server version for a few clients. Upgrading them from natty now.

I've been playing with Arch Linux for a while, and I think I'm starting to like it. The problem is that none of the DEs seem to fit my tastes. I'll probably have to go for a standalone window manager at this rate.

I've had a special place for Arch Linux...I tried it before I lost myself in the world of Gentoo. It's pretty cool but one thing that I've always hated about Arch (don't take it personally) is the fact that they haven't implemented package signing feature. I can go to great lengths for a distro but I'm not ready to compromise in terms of security. Just think of all the packages that get downloaded from various servers....what if....one of those servers get hacked and the packages get backdoored? Not that it is an impossible scenario, in fact it has happened a lot of times in the past.

Also another feature of Arch is that they keep on pushing bleeding edge stuff all the time...stuff directly from sources which might not be that stable...on Gentoo you can fix this problem by simply masking a package and getting to a more stable version of that specific software...I'm not sure if that's possible in Arch.

Anyway as for DE, there are plenty...I'm planning on trying some of the tiling window managers...but then again I'm a big lazy fag that just doesn't wanna leave gnome3. Perhaps some day when I'm not doing interns & working my ¤¤¤ of with startups & freelancing...I can spend some time with those.

As for Unity...I never liked it...but it seems to have improved a lot from the reviews I've seen...but still I don't think I'd use it anytime in the future. Rather go for fluxbox than use all that bs...no offense to unity fans but I simply think it's meant to attract newbies who are starting out on Linux & boy I can't even stand that chat @ubuntu irc channel...it's flooded with noobs.

Lol at that chat log. That was probably just an attention seeking troll.

I'm guessing you haven't used Arch recently; they've rolled out PGP signing. It's still not enabled by default on a fresh install, but it's nearing completion. Might want to read Allan's blog on the whole progress.

You can downgrade just as easily on Arch. Assuming you didn't run pacman -Scc after the upgrade, you can revert to the older package using the pacman -U command. Dead simple.

And yeah, changing DEs is a PITA in terms of time spent tinkering with it to get the perfect setup. Not saying it's boring, but we don't always have the time to fool around now do we?

As for Unity, I just installed 12.04 on a spare HDD, and it's definitely gotten better. Folks on standalone WMs and plasma/gnome-shell may not exactly like it, but it's close to becoming a usable desktop shell. Although I guess GNOME 2 fans may look for something like Xfce/LXDE, or even the new fork MATE.

I tried both LiLi Usb Creator and UNetbootin.
Just tested with the one you mentioned,same result. I was using Linux Mint 12 ,it was working fine.
On some forum it is marked as RAM issue. But the same thing happens with my netbook.
