Variety is reporting that EA is looking to bring its racing franchise to the big screen.

EA is reportedly working on a pitch to turn its Need for Speed franchise into a Hollywood film.

Need for Speed: The Run may be coming to a movie theatre near you!

A Variety report states that EA has hired writer John Gatins (Real Steel, Coach Carter) and producer George Gatins (She's Out of My League) to create a pitch for the film to show potential movie studios.

According to Variety, United Talent Agency (UTA) assembled the pitch for EA, which has already received interest from studios about it, including from Warner Bros, Sony, and Paramount. EA has been with UTA since 2008, when it first contracted the agency to expand its presence in the film and TV space. Since then, EA titles like The Sims and Mass Effect have reportedly been targeted for film adaptations.

The latest entry in the Need for Speed franchise, Need for Speed: The Run, was released in November last year. The series has been annualised since 2002, with a new entry rumoured to be planned for later this year.

In 2009, EA announced that the franchise had sold more than 100 million units worldwide.

Aaron Paul Takes Lead In Need For Speed Movie


DreamWorks Studios and EA announced Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad fame has been cast as the lead role in the upcoming Need for Speed film. The two-time Emmy winner also appeared in Smashed,The Last House on the Left, Mission: Impossible III, and HBO’s Big Love.

"Need for Speed is one of the most action-packed entertainment experiences you can find," said Electronic Arts EVP Patrick Soderlund. "The newest game, ‘Need for Speed Most Wanted’ and the upcoming film take the action to all new heights.

"Like the game series itself, the cast for the movie needs to be edgy and cool. Aaron Paul is a rising star -- a great choice for the film lead. We're looking forward to announcing the rest of the actors that will bring this racing franchise to the big screen."
The movie is not based on any one game in the series. George Gatins and John Gatins developed the story with George writing the feature’s screenplay, EA said.

The Need for Speed film is scheduled to release on February 7, 2014.

Captain America star Dominic Cooper reportedly joins the cast

Plot details for DreamWorks' big screen adaptation of EA's Need for Speed racing series have appeared online, along with reports that actor Dominic Cooper is in negotiations to star in the movie.

Cooper most recently appeared in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but is also known for playing Tony Stark's father Howard in Captain America: The First Avenger. Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul is believed to be taking the leading man role. According to Variety, the film "follows an underground race car driver (Paul) who owns a garage that modifies expensive cars to make them faster for racing. Framed and sent to prison when his best friend is murdered during a race, he seeks revenge upon his release."

Cooper will play Dino, an ex-NASCAR driver who makes a business of modifying and rebuilding supercars.

British actress Imogen Poots is also in talks to play an exotic car dealer who does business with Paul and Cooper.

DreamWorks announced that it had acquired the Need for Speed movie rights in June, when it said it was fast-tracking the project for release in 2014. George and John Gatins (Real Steel, Coach Carter) have developed an original story for the film not based on any individual game.

At the time DreamWorks chairman Steven Spielberg said: "I'm excited about getting back into the creative trenches with John and George Gatins and my partners at EA to bring to life an exhilarating script based on an epic video game that seems to have been made for the movies.

"This is a big piece of business for DreamWorks and we are grateful to Frank Gibeau, Pat O'Brien, Kevin Maher and John and George for choosing us to deliver their goods."

Need For Speed movie: filming has begun in Georgia

Need For Speed’s movie adaptation has begun filming in Macon, Georgia.

The movie was announced back in February and will star actor Michael Keaton and Breaking Bad co-star Aaron Paul. He’s the guy that plays Jesse, in case you weren’t sure who he was.

Macon local news network 13wmaz posted a videothat confirmed the movie had started shooting, and that roads in the area were in lockdown while filming was in progress.
