Must read article in Wired magazine about an enormously ambitious project of the NSA: A datacenter that stores every single traceable action/transaction you do on any digital communication network, unencrypted and encrypted! The project is called “Stellar Wind” and they are building a massive data center and (the world's fastest) supercomputer in Utah to accomplish all of this. It’s basically the biggest scale spying operation ever conduct in human history.
Article in Wired:

The datacenter will be able store a yottabyte (1 yottabyte is 1 trillion terabytes) of data. Including the recordings of phone calls, the contents of emails and IMs etc. Don't ask me how that's even possible with current storage tech.

With this massive pool of data they will be able to apply advanced data mining techniques and statistical analysis to identify anyone that is potentially suspicious.
