    Default Opinions regarding Mechanical Keyboard

    Hi Everybody!

For quite some time I have been thinking about getting a mechanical keyboard. There are many models out there but as I have never used one before, I do not want to take a big financial risk.

Models like the DAS Professional Silent with MX brown switches, TT Meka G1 with black switches are good without any need for verification but they do command a hefty price tag around USD 130-140

There is new Razer Blackwidow Stealth Edition (non-ultimate) , USD 80, non glossy with mx brown switches. The price tag does interest me.

Can someone please help me decide which model I should go for, or if there is any reason to actually own a mechanical keyboard!!!

    Thanks all!

blackwidow stealth is not that good i heard. If you go for razer, then take razer blackwidow ultimate(not special ed) which should cost around 10k if brought from abroad. Those had the better builds amongst the blackwidows. I am using the blackwidow ultimate DAII edition, which had a button holding up problem which I fixed myself tho.
Also, the DAS keyboards are really good. better get them if you find them.

Mech KBs are ¤¤¤¤ing awesome, just keep this in mind, once you get one you will never go back. This might end up being costly because in the future you will always buy mech kbs xD Typing is IMBA FAST, and you'll get a decent boost in competitive gaming performance. They are loud though, even Das' Silent ones.

Stay away from all Razer bhua widow kbs, they breakdown with some heavy usage just like all their other products. Obossho meyeder moto use korle I guess kono prob hobena.

You should get at least a Cherry brown switch KB. @dipanzan can tell you more about the TT Kb. If you are worried about the Das price, I can help you get some discount with my Student ID. I believe its 20% discount for new products and 15% for refurbs. And FYI mine's a refurb, it was96usd shipped.

Rubbers domes are ¤¤¤¤, trust me. I had a Arctosa, Lycosa, bunch of A4Tech KBs, and I'm certain that even the cheapest mechanical kb won't be like using mashed potato switches as with the rubber domes.

If you are a hardcore typist then Cherry MX Browns is what you are after, very light, not so loud, good tactile feedback yet not that stiff. For gaming, Cherry MX Blacks/Reds are considered the best, they have a great feedback, but are very loud, the Blacks are very stiff and will require some force compared to your traditional KB, while the Reds are a bit lighter than the blacks and is both good for typing/gaming.

Double tapping/repeated key press which are the main gaming requirements are best done on the Blacks as they provide a very good feel. The best part is the press(actuation)/release is done at the same time which is very beneficial when gaming FPSes like Counter Strike Source. Cherry MX Blues are considered the typists heaven, they require very less force and is similar to an average keyboard so it won't strain your fingers(much) compared to the others, and the Razer Mech KBs are Cherry MX Blues.

Last but not least, Cherry Browns are the most balanced switches of them all, they are considered the middle ground between a gaming/typing KB. It's very light, yet performs very similar to a Black/Red and is smooth and not so loud comparatively.

@emroz_2272 , for you I would recommend the 6GV2, it costs around $90 but it's built to last and as they say like a tank and it's true. I used both the 6GV2/7G, these things can kill, IIRC the 7G is around ~1.5Kg. My G1 is great, but you won't really like the cable, it's too fat and doesn't bend which is a good and a bad thing. Won't break easily, and will mess up your wire management.

    ...and for the giggles:

They are loud though, even Das' Silent ones.

Stay away from all Razer bhua widow kbs, they breakdown with some heavy usage just like all their other products. Obossho meyeder moto use korle I guess kono prob hobena.

You should get at least a Cherry brown switch KB. @dipanzan can tell you more about the TT Kb. If you are worried about the Das price, I can help you get some discount with my Student ID. I believe its 20% discount for new products and 15% for refurbs. And FYI mine's a refurb, it was96usd shipped.
you are getting the das professional silent s for me then! agreed???

    Enjoy.
I think a DAS professional silent s (cherry mx brown) would be more suitable for my needs - gaming and typing! @aayman will bring it for me (InshAllah)! so happy

    aayman bhai ke fashai dilum!!!!

Lastly, the game I play the most is Fifa, which requires a lot of double and tripple tapping, do you think cherry mx brown will be a good choice??? Thanks!

Buy a KB which does full NKRO and use the PS/2 port not USB. Don't buy a KB which offers only 6 KRO/WASD cluster or only USB(not full NKRO). See some reviews before buying it, it should be in the technical specifications. I believe the K60 from Corsair only does a limited mechanical switches which you don't want, so watch for those Corsair or similar KBs.

When using a mechnical keyboard, try to use the PS/2 whenever possible. PS/2 KBs are interrupt based, which means it'll register the actuation(key press) the instance user inputs it. Whereas USB KBs are polled, when other devices are also sharing the same bus. This might not be applicable in real world experiments, but USB can delay the input, whereas it's actually not possible when using PS/2.

And some of the entry level gaming KBs(not necessarily mechanical) are USB which doesn't allow full NKRO, they only apply it to the WASD cluster (Razer, Logitech, Roccat).

Thanks Zulk, I absolutely adore my 440s but I think the vanilla Titanium is a bit let down for the cans. I guess I need to listen more till it "burns in". And yes about the pads, I'll try to manage a pair of the 840s which were really comfortable IIRC.

@emroz_2272 , I saw the vanilla BlackWidow at DZ today(PC Carnival) they were sponsoring Razer/Tt products for the xK tournament. The BW is 8.5k, and the Ultimate is 11k, good price for the vanilla, and if you can bargain a bit it'll sure be cheaper than buying one from the states/overseas.

I did some mods to the pads and the phones to get them sound like I want them, The dac chip on the titanium is quite light and lacks bass Im sure a portable player like the zune shouldn't outclass the card but it does as the zune has a warm output which really pairs well with the 440's even my 3g Ipod has a strident treble with the 440s compared to the zune that is. the x-fi usb HD however does justice to all my headphones except for the beyers hopefully will get a FiiO e9 sometime around next month
    FTW!!!!!!!!!!

I want to swap my Titanium for a Xonar DX. I loved the D1 when I had it, and I love my Titanium with my HD215, but not with the 440s.
