Creators of DotA to release a brand new game!!!

The masterminds behind our beloved Defense of the Ancients are working on a brand new game... and it looks like it could be something big.

In some very exciting news, Steve 'Guinsoo' Feak (one of the original creators of the Defense of the Ancients mod) and Steve 'Pendragon' Mescon (creator of the DotA-Allstars.com community website) have joined forces with Los Angeles based games developers Riot Games, Inc. to make an all new game, which is said to expand on a lot of the concepts pioneered by DotA Allstars

"League of Legends will bring gamers competitive battle-arena style gameplay that builds upon and expands on innovative gameplay concepts that were pioneered in DotA-Allstars, one of the most popular mods of all time," Brandon Beck, co-founder and CEO, Riot Games, said. "The team is applying its expertise and passion to producing a game that fuses premium art and gameplay features with deep community tools."

The game seems to be a combination of DotA, RTS and MMORPG. The player controls a 'summoner', who gains experience and items over time, and who can control 'champions', which have passive and active skills very similar to the heroes in DotA.

"League of Legends will feature custom-built multiplayer support including matchmaking, stat tracking, clan support, anti-cheat systems, dedicated in-game ladders and Leaverbuster technology."

The emphasis seems to be on creating a very strong competetive multiplayer community, although there will be a single player with AI controlled bots for newcomers.

It seems the current mastermind behind DotA, IceFrog, is not working on the game. A post from Pendragon on the League of Legends forums said "We have a great respect for IceFrog and all of the work he has done with DotA Allstars. He is not currently working with us on League of Legends."

The first screenshots and the teaser trailer are up now on the League of Legends official site, and the development team is currently looking for beta testers, to begin in 2009.

on the other hand, DemiGod is something that has the potential to take away many dota players. although, it is still too early to come to a conclusion.

as far as i can understand, Riot Games is just trying to fame their game with guinsoo and pendragon's names.
and these guys are getting good load of money surely for this.

they couldn't include IceFrog in it even if they tried to. because Ice will never go after money first.
and im sure, the FIRST one Riot Games tried to bring home IS Ice.

Go piss yourself boy!! Don't be so pessimistic! Let's see where it goes, and as for IceFrog, he'd never go because he's too busy with DotA. But the whole fact that Pendragon is going means that it has IceFrog's blessings, and he's at least gonna join as a beta tester in the future!

The fact remains.. we need a game like dota. then nobody would dare saying that "its just a map". We are desperate, so we are going after almost anything... thats it. There is a poll in LOL forum. It asks "have you ever played DotA?". The result is 99% people are DotA hardcore fans. I dont care if its Ice or Fire[or CvP], i would pursue anything i see smiler to DotA and better. Even if they are just mirages.

"Its just a map" its freaking hard to tolerate.

DotA is not just a map.

w3x files are NOT a map. it is an archive file. which contains thousands of scripts (read programing) and a lot of other things including game contents.

DotA is a game that runs on Warcraft 3 engine. end of story.
DotA can be made like CS in one day if wished. it can easily be accomplished.
but it makes no sense doing that.

world of warcraft warth of litch king is the next release in warcraft universe.it continue from the end of frozen throne. arthas is the lich king now. so i think warcraft 4 wont be coming anywhere soon.

Fact is Ice is TOO busy with developing DotA and his studies. AFAIK, He's a CSE student in Boston - Anybody thinking MIT?

Warcraft 4 is still a myth! Blizzard never announced such a thing. They'll release and balance Diablo III and Starcraft II before attempting to create a new Warcraft.

But, it's true that there was a hype about Warcraft IV in BD because of some misleading websites. In truth, that was Wrath of the Lich King, another expansion of WoW!
