Thread: Need A Good Headphone

  1. #21

    Default

Go for Audio-Technica ATH-M50 ($150)mainly for listening to music.
As u r using the onboard soundcard its a crap.
U need headphone dac and amp Fiio E7 ($80) and check it here.

Though your budget is below this $230.

    U can go for Grado SR60i ($80) and Fiio E7 ($80)

And remember, if u want the maximum output (in terms of quality and its potential) u need very good soundcard (a DAC like Fiio E7 can do that if u dont have a very good soundcard on board) and headphone amp (Fiio E7 is a DAC+AMP combo).

The M50 sounds like pairs of dheu-tin flapping together!!!
Have you heard them yourself or is your opinion based on reviews? An SRH440 is 10x better than the M50 at 1/2 the cost.

Care to explain the last line? Is it because you felt offended at me pointing out that your suggestion was not worth 2 bucks or is it because you 're an insecure M50 owner yourself?

If you haven 't been lucky enough to have heard 'em and compare them to other cans don 't give blind opinions based on reading others' opinions.

I've had my fair share of cans (which includes the M50) to compare them to and haven 't come across anything as disappointing as the M50, the AKG 271 comes closest probably. They are good for $50, no more than that. For $150, DHEU-TIN, that 's the best way i can describe them to members here. One word to sum up the tin-can sound in a boxed-in stage the death-gripping M50 puts out.

If you haven 't heard them or don 't have the privilege to compare them to other cans costing even less than the M50 itself, stop living in a fantasy world.

Because u r too aggressive and dont have the respect to others' opinion (which opinion is not based on building castle in the air)
What made u confirm that i havent listen to the M50!

And what do u mean by insecure owner?
On the contrary in the next line u wrote ... "If you haven 't been lucky enough to have heard 'em ... " lolz ... very funny ...

First, u need to read and try to understand what others say. then criticize.

For listening to music, i find it very very impressive. I have been using this for the past 4 years with my sony str-dg720 and sometimes with my iPhone. When i use this with my Laptop i always use a DAC. And in all the cases a headphone amp is a must. otherwise u wont feel the depth of the music. Without the DAC sound is crappy (told u before) and without the amp sound is very light. And amazingly, i found the sound quality awesome when i use the DAC with the iPhone! For gaming, this is not a good one, and
DarkMan wanted a headphone for listening to music and watching movie. For watching movie this is an average headphone.

If u dont like any thing, thats ur personal opinion. its alright. but u must mention that "this is what i think" or "i found it in this way" when u r in a social site (like a forum) otherwise some might get offended.
Obviously there are many better headphones than the M50. But dont negate the opinions and test results of the true audiophiles and experienced ears.

Please re-read post#22, it was not a personal attack towards you. For god 's sake it 's the M50 i was talking, not your girlfriend, what do you find agressive in this? :s
I think you should first try n understand what ppl are saying before talking BS like 'you're 13 not 23'. What made you feel so insulted??? I ask......

so, you been holding true to the M50 for 4 years?!!!! O_O ah...a very typical M50 user I must say.

It 's supposed to sound crap off a Laptop's line-out......duh.. But the M50s aren 't the kind of phones which are supposed to make the world of difference/scale accordingly with the source, of-course it will sound better though, but then again, anything will.
In fact the M50 is so easy to drive that it 's not even going to reveal any differences between E9 and E7.

I found it crap for music(which is my primary concern) given that there are far better options for less money. I'm not even going in-depth towards instrument separation, positioning, imaging and staging, a $30 HTF-600 will rape it in all those departments. Hell...you can find Dt770 for $20 less and DT990 $20 more! It would be a sin to buy an M50 over them. Pricing was different years back, may be back then the M50 for $120 made sense, but now all headphones have come down in price whereas the M50 has increased to $150.

If you love the M50 so much that you feel offended when some1 rats about it, then i'm sorry, it can 't be helped. This is a forum and you should understand that whatever people talk about is out of their opinion/experience which leads them to certain conclusions.

May be you should pick up another can this year to get out of the darkness the M50 has cast upon you for the last 4 years.

Seriously? Are you kidding me? I'm not writing an application to my child 's principal or attending in a parliament debate........This a forum where most people have known each other for a good while.

Edit : Excuse some missing words/letters in the post. I had to run thru writing it, because i'm short of time.
