    Default Quick Tips!

I thought some of you might need this thread for little things that don't really need threads of their, like queries about changes in price, which shop to buy from etc. Full PC configs should have their own threads though

    I'll start off

I'm looking for cheap thermal paste, and after my disastrous experience the last time, I really could use all the all I need. I'm not looking for anything uber. Good quality but cheap paste/grease.

Why do people assume I'm in NY, America is a LOT bigger than NY! lol. I'm in College Park, Maryland.

@XLR8 I can't remember the exact name It was a black tube with some green design. Thermal grease, not paste...I just can't remember the name...god I'm getting old...

    Edit: avas bhaiya eta dekhen:

All shipments are handled by ARCTIC COOLING Hong Kong and shipped out by Hong Kong Post. A tracking number is available for each package. It normally takes 1-2 weeks for delivery depending on your shipping address.

A cheap yet performance wise excellent TIM is Shin Etsu X23-7783D. You can check over reviews. Despite of selling at relatively low price than others, its always competes with high performer TIMs and literally beat the crap out of many legendary top grade performers out there.

    I don't think its cheap. 7USD for 1G only

I ordered the MX4 btw, 8USD free expedited shipping. Knowing my noobness I know I'll screw something up. I still don't have an idea of how much to apply lol.

Its cheap in a sense that you're getting a tube full of decent TIMs at such price range. My one is probably took a little less than its current price. But true that, quantity-wise its somewhat pricy.

Shin etsu is awesome. Its one of the best out there. Arctic silver 5 is also awesome. you can see the following review--

& about amount to use, there are various methods, some use a pea size drop or a small line. Use the following for guidance-

    On Topic.

Shin Itsu is awesome but 1gm will let you apply highest 4 times. that is no way enough. and if you dont competitively OC there is no need for this.

compared to AS products the MX4 is better. and doesnt require burn in time. also not conductive. MX4 is a 4gm tube. will allow around 12-18 applications.

Shin Etsu is in no way cheap, and 1g is just not enough to spare some for using later. You may find forum memebers (i don 't xactly rememeber where, but prolly hardforum) selling in bulk quantities which ultimately prove a lot cheaper per unit than buying single doses.

Get the Zalman STG-2. It 's actually better than Arctic Cooling MXs and require little amount of paste to be applied. The MXs need to applied in larger portions compared to other pastes in order to work effectively and even then does not yield temps as good as the STG2.

In multi-core processors, line method(aligned with the layout of cores under the IHS) and multiple grain method produce better results than rice-grain method due to the distribution layout of the cores under the IHS.

I have had 'em all and done multiple assemblies tryin out all the different methods multiple times. The rice-grain method was applicable in the P4 era, not anymore.
