Epic to preview next-gen Unreal Engine 4 at GDC

Epic’s announced it’s to preview next-gen tech Unreal Engine 4 at GDC next week.

After showing off the incredible tech demo known as Samaritan at last year’s show, Epic will show off the new tech to “select licensees, partners and prospective customers,” with NDAs required to be signed before seeing it.

The Gears of War company will hold business and tech meetings on Unreal Engine 3, as well as appointment-only media briefings on the Wednesday and Thursday.

Epic’s also detailed named some of the panels it’ll be involved with, including Tim Sweeney, Cliff Bleszinski, Rod Fergusson, Chair’s Simon Hurley and others.

And as previously announced, studio design director Bleszinski will present the 12th Game Developers Choice Awards on March 7.

Crytek to demonstrate “next-generation DX11 graphics and tools upgrades” for CryEngine 3 at GDC

Crytek will demonstrate upgrades to CryEngine 3, including “next-generation DX11 graphics and tools upgrades” at GDC next week along with advancements to the AI System and UI Actions.

According to Develop, the newest tech upgrades will be shown at Crytek’s GDC booth.

Last month week, a job posting noted that EA had signed with Crytek for a new project.

Speculation on what it could be ensued, but at present, the only other confirmed developments from the firm are the Kinect-exclusive Ryse, THQ’s Homefront 2, the free-to-play Warface, as and Crytek’s new social platform GFACE.

GDC takes place next week in San Francisco.

    KARA - Quantic Dream's New Tech-Demo

Quantic Dream have released a new tech-demo called KARA. You can watch it here:

    ---------- Post added at 17:13 ---------- Previous post was at 15:41 ----------

Unreal Engine 4 to be publicly shown 'later in 2012'
"Hopefully," but it's "not up to us" says Epic

Epic Games hopes to publicly show off its next-generation Unreal Engine 4 technology - which will likely power games on the next PlayStation and Xbox consoles - later this year.

That's what the studio told assembled press at GDC yesterday, adding that the decision to put its UE4 demo behind closed doors - and viewing developers under non-disclosure agreement - at the conference "wasn't our decision". It's previously been said that the next-gen Unreal Engine will require ten times the power of Xbox 360 to run.

On the subject of next-generation hardware, Epic VP Mark Rein told CVG he expects new consoles to "blow us all away," but added that the Unreal Engine studio is "constantly pushing" platform holders to prep more advanced hardware.

"There's no end in sight for what we can do with unlimited technology. So we're always going to be pushing and I'm sure we'll be pushing for more than is possible to give," he said.
