its a quad core but 2 cores are disabled by factory default. Those cores can be unlocked by tweaking bios. Google for 'amd core unlock'

@CRY_ENGINE3 , you can't really guaranty an unlock, as it's more or less luck of the draw. Some boards will unlock it seamlessly if the dormant cores are functioning, or else it will have stability problems. If you aren't selling it separately, then good as you have warrant a successful unlock on that board.

But do give some stability/benched proof that it's perfectly functioning like a quad core. Thanks.

Wait who said that the warranty is void when you unlock an AMD processor ? How will they ever know, if you just give them the processor ? Even if they were to test, the CPU would load up with defaults rendering the extra cores null.

    Stop posting misinformation, dude.

OP, if you ever need warranty- turn back to bare defaults before sending em' in. They will never likely know what you did with the processor, lol.
Do you really want it closed btw @CRY_ENGINE3 ?

Umm, no. They won't have a clue even if you overclock. Unless it's burned or damaged physically.

Try not to push insane volts, and you will be fine.

Yeah , AFAIK, any OCing/unlocking voids warranty.

Oh, I'm sorry I could not find the humor in that post.

It's just that I know a few things about how microprocessors work as how AMD designed them. Smart/Ryans you say ?

    Here's AMD's statement on warranty:
    http://support.amd.com/us/warranty/Pages/Processorinabox3YearLimited.aspx

If that were the case, technically I would be voiding warranty too right ? But tell me this, how will they ever know, what I did with the processor ? Please by whatever means, do enlighten me on how Smart/Ryans will diagnose the processor if it's ever sent to RMA, just bare or defaulted ? Will the processor load it's inactive cores automatically ? There's a reason why motherboard vendors use BIOS/UEFI to read the microcode of the processor before the actual POST is complete. The moment, it's verified as a dual core- it WILL start up as a dual core.

I wouldn't have posted in this thread, but you scared poor @CRY_ENGINE3 right of the bat here. If the dormant cores are 100% functional, then there's absolutely no harm in unlocking them.

uni maybe ai 2 ta line er jonno hashche. And btw, bangladeshi RMA policy is pretty different from international you know. i.e TT provides 5 year warranty but do we get it here?

And if OP tells the shopkeeper that he Unlocked it, i wanna see how he gets the warranty. No matter what logical argument you do.
