999 Players All in One Game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Imagine 999 players all in the same area at once shooting lasers at each other
The developers over at Pikkotekk a year ago in 2011 decided to try and make a MMO FPS in Unity that would be able to handle a magnitude of 1000 players. Two teams facing off each other, 500 each, with consistant shooting, and full functionality. Well it seems today Pikkotekk succeded with a magnitude of 999. The video below states 993, but it was actually 999.
The game is called Man vs Machine and is a simple Team Deathmatch game, where a large amount of human and machine forces spawn facing each other with some distance in between, and shoot each other to bits. With lasers beings shot back and forth, it might as well be a rave. A violent one at that. While they didn't achieve their goal of 1000 players, reaching 999 is still something to work with. Pikkotekk states their plans after this, "Our goal now is to make this technology available to developers worldwide."
I can only imagine what battles like that could mean for the future. We could recreate several major battles, create onslaughts of people, I could only imagine what could become of it. With Star Wars: The Old Republic just releasing, could you imagine two teams of 500 players fighting each other. Would be a hell of a battle just even trying to balance it out, but at the same time it'd be incredible. I'm not expecting something of that quality to happen any time soon, but it just makes you think what is ahead in gaming.
What game or scenario would you want to see this happen in?
