Default URGENT Sound Card Buying Help!

    Hello all again..

I need a sound card, something under 6k... So is X-Fi Titanium available?? Or how is Creative Go Pro?? USB cards are preferred, but PCI cards will do too... Amazon.com links will do too, but then it has to be under $45...

    Thanks in advance...

    Asus Xonar DG

    http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Channel-Sound-Card-XONAR_DG/dp/B0045JHJSS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327159969&sr=8-1

    T
he Xonar's C-Media Oxygen chip is better than the Raider's processor, has a built-in amp for driving some hefty HPs, unbeatable for $30. Your pick.

I vote for Auzentech X-Raider, but if you can't get it for some reason, get Asus' Xonar but under no circumstances buy Crappative.

LOL, why ? What's wrong with Creative ? I'm using a Titanium, and I face no problems whatsoever. Even the newer Titanium HD is some serious contender to the top end Asus cards.

Even still the Titanium HD doesn't have an Built-in Headphone AMP like the ST/STX.

Invalid comparison, Titanium HD wasn 't made with a Beyerdynamic DTXXX 600Oh in mind. It is aimed towards a different category and with a different approach, most stereophiles looking to power high impedance cans would prefer to go a proper source + amp route instead of a SC that packs both, and that 's where the Titanium HD sits, to act as a proper source, not solely power high impedance cans.

It isn't 1995 anymore, Creative driver issues are non-existant in this era and if budget permits, a vanilla titanium is a better option over a Xonar DX if some1 likes tinkering the sound sig to adjust to his ears.

IF your budget is very low, the DG as suggested by dipa is worth taking a look, although that HP amp won 't serve much of a purpose when powering high impedance cans with low sensitivity.

I'm not saying that I prefer other brands over Creative because of the drivers, it's no longer 1995 and even back in those days the Sound Blaster Awe 64s rocked, but Creative's gotta habit of not using proper hardware or making any advancement of their cards, they simply create the difference between one hardware to another by their infamous drivers which are often cracked, daniel_k over at Crappative's official forum has proven this and even I have an X-Fi Mb 2 mod running with my Realtek audio which clearly makes one hell of a difference in sound, so my point is, why choose a vendor that sells basically the same hardware again and again with just a renaming scheme and a new set of drivers?

Need I say more ? I never said that the Titanium was superior, but it's a worthy competitor to the higher end Xonars, but the Xonars are in a league of their own. Not everyone buys >60 ohm headphones, you'll need a proper amp to power those anyway, what the ST/STX offer here is that, you can change the operational amplifier to your liking based on what HP you get.

Even then there are no of factors when deciding on these op-amps, primarily on what you are trying to achieve: neutral sound/higher impedance cans/sound signature etc etc. I can go on and on, but this a completely different topic unknown to much of the viewers out here, so I won't bother anymore.

Bhaiya I'm quite aware of the fact which you described here, but let me put it this way: an on-board will never better than a dedicated sound card, I don't want to sound harsh but that is the cold truth. Just go over at G3D forums, I was interested in these driver mods way back then when I had a IP35-E which had a ALC8xx chip & was supported by this hack. Just look for ROBSCIX's words there, I'm sure you'll understand.

For Creative's part, here's an e.g: the Titanium vs Titanium Fatal1ty Professional:

Uses the very same audio processor EMU20K2. Only extras: an EMI shield and X-RAM which is useless since games no longer support this X-RAM anymore. The only "real" advantage the Pro has over the vanilla is the 3.5'' bay for audio outs/enabling disabling crystalizer/sound modes etc. The Fatal1ty branding sells I guess, lol. But the newer Titanium HD is completely revamped, uses audiophile grade components, the pcb is completely different than that used on the EMU20K2 variants, overall a better sound signature than the older models.

@Hemlock bhaiya will be able to tell more, my knowledge is limited.
