    Default Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

My dad needs a new phone and the Xiaomi redmi note 4 for 14.5k seems like a great deal
    https://pickaboo.com/xiaomi-redmi-note-4.html

But what's the catch? I know this does not have an official warranty and that's fine but my main concern is; does it use the international rom or the chinese one?

If it's the chinese rom then it won't have the Playstore and even if i do download the Playstore it'll be buggy.

    Does anyone have any clue?

If it is fishy can you guys suggest something else at this pricepoint?

    thanks

What's the major difference between both? knowing Xiaomi I think they would want their ROM to be more ubiquitous. Also everybody is buying this phone in BD. My brother, same with of my friends and so on.

Google is banned in china so the chinese rom does not contain the google playstore... plus it has loads of chinese apps pre installed which can't be removed.. plus the default language chinese so navigation during initial set up would be a pain.

Well anyway I talked to the guys and they say its the global rom..

Your brother uses it? Have u checked it out.. Is it good?

I am currently using Redmi note 3(mtk 2gb). It is really good for normal usage. Satisfied.
It doesnt have much support for custom ROMS though since its the MTK variant. Snapdragon is better in that regard. So my suggestion would be go for redmi note 3 pro. You even get a better camera of 16mp compared to RMN4's 13mp.

Whatever you get, go for 3gb versions. Avoid 2gb ones.

Thanks for the feedback guys... I have ordered it...It's for my dad so I won't be flashing a custom rom anytime soon if ever. I'm going with the redmi note 4 since it has 64gigs of storage. (pretty awesome)

don't buy from them what ever you do.. The phone we got keeps randomly rebooting.. I have checked online and they recommend to drain the battery fully and then charge it.. I'll see if this works or not if not file for a replacement. If they decline I'll have to go to a MI store and pay for a repair

My gut feeling is that it has something to do with your ROM. The thing is if a phone comes with Chinese ROM chances are they(the shop)will flash a custom rom in your device. Its because chinese devices come with chinese ROMS with no google play store(or any other google apps). So shops here just flash a custom ROM so that play store works. Those are not official ROMS so bugs, in your case random restarts might occur. A friend of mine faced this issue on his redmi note 3 mtk. I flashed official rom on his device and the bugs stopped occuring.

Just sharing my thought. I hope draining your battery solves the problem.

I just turned the phone on after a drain and am going to to run some heavy tasks to see if it crashes or not.

If it does crash i hope u are right it would ve pretty easy to just flash an official rom

You cant really differentiate the international and Chinese roms but basics are you cant install playstore in Chinese versions afik, another thing is gadeget7 who's are widely known for official xiaomi product sellers in Bangladesh also sells the Chinese roms but if you ask them after purchasing your product to turn into the international one they do that for free its not a big deal tbh. Even if you have ideas about how to flash roms then you can do that at home by urself for more info

Update: I returned the phone and got a replacement the very next day. This set works perfectly fine with no issues so far.

I thing I noticed about my previous set was that it did not boot to "Set up" mode. It actually directly went ijto homescreen without setting up anything like "Google account" etc. It also had some odd apps pre installed. Also in the back under the sticker there were writings like "China Mobile" , "4G LTE" etc..

The new set i got had no writings and also booted to set up mode.

yeah you can choose English as well. Chinese ROMS come with some chinese apps like Sina Weibo etc.
No Google Play store by default. Although there is a workaround and you can install play store(and other google apps) it isnt worth it. Because eventually it gives error when downloading apps. Probably because google play cant work properly not being a system app. This is the main issue really. And for this reason I flashed custom international ROM on my phone.

i would have suggested the note 3 pro with the snapdragon 650. The note 4 uses mediatek chipset. I understand since your dad is gonna use it, performance isn't going to be a big issue.

If you didn't buy the note 4 yet then i would suggest you to wait for the new Snapdragon 625 Variant of Redmi note 4. It will be much better deal over the MTK SoC. Also the battery drain problem will be fixed along with few upgrades on the camera.

But what's the catch? I know this does not have an official warranty and that's fine but my main concern is; does it use the international rom or the chinese one?

If it's the chinese rom then it won't have the Playstore and even if i do download the Playstore it'll be buggy.

    Does anyone have any clue?

If it is fishy can you guys suggest something else at this pricepoint?

    thanks

Whether its international ROM or chinese, you can always flash your required ROM after unlocking bootloader. Also there is a dedicated app that installs play store in Chinese ROMs. I have a Mi 3 and had a Mi4C, both had chinese ROM. That being said, if you don't enjoy tinkering with phones, Xiaomi is not for you, and you might wanna look into other brands.
