Shared Drive
Is there a way for me to allocate some space from my pc's hdd or portable hdd into a folder that will be accessible to all devices that are connected to me through wifi? So that all files inside are accessible, such as pics and maybe even the ability to stream videos (will reduce hassle of transferring movies, series and animes from pc to phone). I know that some routers have the ability to plug in portable hdd directly to them, but my one has no such options.
TIA

i am not sure... i think you are talking about plex server and plex alternative stuff...
also... there is a version of vlc in playstore which would allow you to stream video to android... and there are other alternatives...

Hfs(http://www.rejetto.com/hfs/), Plex or Kodi should be able to do the trick. If you want a simple file sharing server without streaming (well technically you can still stream but the result wont be that good) then try hfs. Otherwise go for Plex or Kodi.

I think

I simply use windows file and folder sharing. Shared folders on my PC that I need to access, and browse them using Solid Explorer/ES File explorer from my phone. Solid Explorer/ES File explorer can also access my ISP's FTP server directly, and MX player can stream movies from that FTP server directly as well. I also set up a Plex media server for watching movies on TV. Works fine for me. But all devices at my home are either android or windows, so no idea about apple devices.
