This is turning out to be an interesting conversation.
Well, I think it's nice that even people you don't know too well would wish you a happy birthday.
And having each thread for each birthday maximizes the no. of people who would congratulate you. Nothing wrong with that, right?
Right, it's like a Birthday party where you dunno half the ppl that are presentand winty's suggestion seems to be an excellent suggestion, nothing less from the publisher.

Stop pinching like this. All the birthday threads that has been opened seems worthless you but not to those who has thanked all the well wishers for wishing him. If you have problem then don't visit those threads in futures or wish there.
And yes in foreign forums I have seen separate Birthday threads for members. Also I don't see any reason to follow foreign forums.
W'ere just wishing. Wishing some one for his Birthday isn't forbidden in Islam. Cutting cake, lighting candle is forbidden.

It feels great to the Birthday boy when he sees his own birthday wish thread (i think so & alteast he has got the right to have his own birthday thread !). IMO a separate section can be made for Birthday threads but not single thread.
