It was supposed to be mid range but now its been bumped up to the high end and GK110 will be the uber high end or something. Just imagine if this was released for 300USD as originally planned, pura bash AMD ke lol. But as expected, they have to screw things up some way.
they were claiming GK104 as mid-range but Nvidia didn't knew that GK104 would come this good......so why not milk cash out of it since it beats the AMD flagship HD7970....so they r now calling it High end for the time being and keep the UBER-high end GK110 out of limelight till AMD comes with something more competitive ....but today Fudzilla has reported that GTX680 will come @ $499 (still a rumour) since its Fudzilla
BUT if it comes @ $499 that would put a BIG dent @ HD7970 sales unless they cut its price down
Prices will eventually come down for the 7970, but Nvidia won't be able to price like the 8800GTX/Ultra for quite some time I hope. Both these cards need some time to settle down with the drivers, neither of them has their respective drivers(early and/or beta), and the 7970 still has a massive headroom albeit the cut throat price.

and GK104 was supposed to be GTX660 ti....isn't this enough to beat competitor's Flagship HD7970?

okkey....look the GK104 was supposed to be GTX660ti but nvidia didn't knew that GK104 would be this great and pull ahead out of AMD's flagship HD7970....so Nvidia rebranded GK104 as GTX680 and now it is the flagship until GK110 nd GK112 comes which are supposed to arrive in summer nd fall 2012
so basically the point is this kepler stuff is beast....even their low nd mid end parts seems to be promising and one cant imagine if their so called past mid-range part GK104 pulls ahead of 7970 what would GK110 nd GK112 do.....so it will get whole lot interesting with 7990 buzzing in the air and after this epic performance from GK104.... 7990 days seems to be numbered before arrival cuz Nvidia is redying their DUAL GK104 part/GTX690 which is due to arrive in summer after HD7990....whatever is gonna be interesting year for Nvdia......cuz next year Maxwell which we from the rumours what monster it will be (with built in SSD nd independent GPU taking all the the workload from CPU and processing itself....and more nd more)

More or less the same thing. This benches would be beneficial for those who seek GPGPU performance, and have primary work functions for CUDA. Even if 7970 rapes a 680 in terms of direct compute, Nvidia has better software support than AMD atm which makes things amiss.
Then gk110/112 will be of gtx 700's gpu.r8?

this is just like humiliating the HD7970......even @ 2560*1600 with 2GB VRAM the GTX680 is not slowing down...showing off its true muscle power.....what a card and at only $499 it just cant get any better....
