Post Surge of Newbies reviving threads

There's been some kind of Epidemic, I know this is a problem thats existed for a long time. But by now we should have established ground rules for newer members not to revive old threads unless they have a good reason to, but not like this guy <(specified thread as example for post) or this

Also new members need to introduce themselves, for the last time why aren't they being led here? it's annoying that they could post wherever they want and we get baited like retards while they try to increase their post count. Do you know why? because we still have glimpse of hope that theres other activities going in this forum other than our AMD vs Nvidia threads.

This isn't the active BG like it was back in the days I know that but can we muster whatever we have to savor whats left in this forum?, can we also remind newer members about rules in buy and sell threads?

Please be aware of the date and time of threads you're posting in, reviving old threads are a bit of a nuisance unless of course you need help with something or have some useful output to give(we say useful not meaning anything random you write can be useful) also please follow rules for buy/sell/exchange threads.
^Example as that, probably let a masthead pop up for newer members to read and have them scroll down to the last end of paragraph before they can agree with conditions. Is this rule Draconian? no, because if we're sloppy enough. Forcing us to write passwords to log in our accounts will be Draconian too

Yes you can point at me and say am only taking the attention, but can you speak in behalf of others as well who checks new posts and see what is up?

I think BG should become invitational and it's for a good cause. You'd see lot less people like nerob69, or bogichogi who's running a 6800K on a Z170(!) board.

How much do you know about the traditional SEO practices? If you look at the signature of the guy you've linked as an example, it's quite clear he is "link building". He has no intention to follow general guidelines of this forum as long as his posts don't get deleted.

You didn't imply BG becoming invitational (and I didn't imply you did TBH) but your idea is same as that — STUPID. Members shouldn't do the mod/admins' job. We need either more active mods or more mods. I personally like Head-Fi's moderation system. Every new member's first 5 to 10 posts/replies are published only after the mods review them. Necroing is a part of forum culture. We seniors can only disparage them. Mods are the ones to regulate them. And there's no forum law anywhere in the internet that YOU HAVE to introduce yourself. That's to individual discretion. And you just ranted without any suggestion about replying in which threads should constitute as necroing. For example, by your logic posting in "Fun Thread Unmoderated" or "What Song Are You Listening To" or "What Movie You Last Watched" is necroing because what good reason we have to see a joke, listen to your song or how much you rate a movie and they're a few weeks or months dead already. Ultimately only active moderation solves all these issues.

That's the thing! BG can be moderated by its existing guidelines already if we have more active moderators. And you know who're some of the most active members here don't you? *grin*

Auto lock the 6 month old thread problem solved if the thread starter wants to open the thread again he can just pm a mod. Invite only is not a good solution either, if it was invite only I would have never joined here. Forum just need some good modding that is all. Like swapnil said those are seo bot any good mod can smell them miles away.

No no. I'm fine being a simpleton. Moderation is something I'm unfit for. I'm flattered that some of you think very highly of me and I thank you all for the generosity. I've had my share of qualms with aayman and pretty much everybody else over the years, and I believe that aayman is probably the most sensible moderator around. Thing is, moderators are people like us and they have a life to live, and they can't provide round the clock moderation. Making this forum closed/invitations only may or may not be a good idea, but I'm sure some middle ground can be reached. Truth is, forums are dying because there are tons and tons of facebook groups for enthusiast conversations, debates and for sharing news, and it's come to the point that people aren't really that interested in visiting forums, at least it's applicable for us Bangladeshis. I believe that all members on this forum (who aren't moderators) are equal. We all had our fair share of quirks before we fit in to this forum, and I believe new members should be given the same opportunity. That said, people with malicious intents like nerob69, toxic like behavior from the likes of chosen1, or appalling attitude from the likes of bogichogi (and I'm sure there are more like them) is what causes the disturbance in the paradise. If the regulars stick together, instead of being divided, we can see these troublemakers off on our own.

You didn't imply BG becoming invitational (and I didn't imply you did TBH) but your idea is same as that — STUPID. Members shouldn't do the mod/admins' job. We need either more active mods or more mods.

every forum from head-fi to bitcointalk... every functional forum in the internet has system like that, the problem is BG doesnt have a big userbase and BG doesnt have active mods. so his idea might sound 'stupid' but i think for now that has to do it. first 3 to 5 post will be 'minimized', until it gets approve from 2 or 3 users of the forum.

what to I mean by minimize? I meant there was a negative repu button in BG 5 years ago, if a post got enough negative votes it would become minimized/hidden.

The negative rep system was being abused by a few. Hence it was removed. I doubt we have enough active members to provide a downvote on posts to make it hidden. That, and the fact that not everyone will share the same sentiment is one among the many other reasons that it shouldn't return.

you are right... maybe the negative repu power should be a variable and if you have more reputation yourself your repu matters more?

    ok whatever... forget it

I do visit BG time to time, not as regularly and I've met some awesome people from this very forum. I really miss the old days, when we used to have heated debates about which processor to buy, or what would be the better pick, GTX470 or a HD4870.

Old members still visit the forums but aren't keen on posting stuff I guess like the old days, everyone got busy and moved on.
