Thread: Should I go for a 2nd hand R9 380 or a 380x?

  1. #1

    Default Should I go for a 2nd hand R9 380 or a 380x?

I recently came across 2 deals for an R9 380 and an R9 380X. The R9 380 is being sold for 18K with 1.5 years of warranty. It's the sapphire g1 gaming edition one and seems to be in a pretty mint condition. The R9 380X is the asus strix model which is being sold for 20K with 35 months of warranty. Both of these have 4 gigs of VRAM and are said to be slightly negotiable. So, which one should I go for? Also, suggest a PSU for either of these GPU's. TIA

What this guy said. Polaris is supposed to be somewhat budget oriented which will probably sway many people towards getting one and thus even more people will want to upgrade so more cards in the secondhand market. You might be seeing some unbelievable deals.

steal for the seller, price is probably gonna go down after release of polaris and GTX 1060. Even release of 1070 is gonna have an effect, people will sell their 970s at that price.

    no 1070 won't have any effect. 1070 will have effect on 970/390 & 390x.

    and 1060 will arrive in Q4 2016.

If 1070 is released at 350$ then second hand 970s will be available at ~20k or less

Hmm, didn't notice the suggested price. Still, GTX 970 is already being sold at 24-26k, so it's safe to say they will be sold at much cheaper price after the card is released.

Why wait for price drop? If the past few years any indication, the card's will magically disappear after new gen release. But I'd say wait for R9 480 or sth in similar price range. AMD said it'll perform close or similar to 390x with less than half power draw.
