Thread: Which brand UPS to buy?

Default Which brand UPS to buy?

    Guys,
I have pc with 650W PSU and GPU of Saphire R7 370 4GB. Each time I play Assassin's Creed Syndicate, electricity goes frequently and save file gets corrupted. Please suggest me a good brand UPS with how much VA ability (600VA or 1200VA or more). I just need 15 minute backup to complete ongoing mission and then manually shut down pc. Thanks in advance

    I think you'll need 1200VA.

Bought RA before PowerTree, as people in BG were recommending them during that time. It was even worse. Much worse.

Had really good experience with Prolink bought in 2008. Nowadays people seems to hate Prolink.

Bought a PowerGuard for someone else in 2007. Never heard anything about that UPS from him, positive or negative. I think his PC died before the UPS.

My conclusion, buy whichever brand is new in the market. Quality drops when a brand becomes popular. At least in BD market.

What's the problem? Probably take it back to Superior Electronics. They have spare circuits and battery there.

What are some good brands of UPS right now?

    For my PC, configuration:

    4670k
    16GB RAM
HD5850, will upgrade to something efficient in the near future
    1 HDD & 1 SSD
    650w Corsair GOLD PSU

the cheaper long term solution is to upgrade your existing home IPS with a new one that has ups function built in it or switches fast enough to hold pc during outage.

If you really really want a suggestion, Get a PowerGuard 1500VA. Or maybe 1200VA if you are really really tight on money. But don't hold me to this suggestion.

is offline UPS enough for me? or should I go for online? Is that the following link you are talking about? I have no problem buying that, but what is the extra benefit of 1500va over 1200va?

If you understand what an overkill is, then an Online UPS would be over-overkill for your setup. I only suggested 1500VA because I noticed you have a 650watt PSU with an R7 370, which means you probably like overkills. If you are playing Assassin's Creed with R7 370, then you would be fine with an offline 800VA+ UPS. If you had GTX Titans on 2 way SLI and was working on CAD/Design/Development work where one sudden power off would cost you thousands in terms of lost work, was running a database server for a company, or using super pricey and super sensitive hardware like a 80 inch plasma screen, then I would have suggested you an online UPS.

Oh, and yes, that is the correct link.

Oh, wait, I think I found the mixup. The transfer time doesn't say anything about the amount of time you will get backup. For that you will need the battery size, which is usually 7.5-9 Ah on most UPSes on the market. With that, I would suggest you not to run games more than 5 minutes. A 1500VA ups may give you up to 20 minute backup when it's new, but if you keep doing that then the battery would get damaged and the backup time would fall below 5 minute pretty soon. If your missions last longer than 5 minute you should get something with large external batteries. Like minitt vai suggested in post #12, get an IPS with fast switching times. That means an IPS that has it's transfer time listed as 2~6ms.
