    Post Game Optimization nowadays

If this is all it's going to be, then our future as PC gamers is bleak. Even If I get the cash to buy new hardware, who knows one of my favorite games will have bad MSAA optimization and I won't be able to play it the way I want. These problems are in forums, video performance reports and articles

This hasn't been this horrible since 2010's horrible optimization of Saints Row 2 PC and yes I know about GTA IV's port that's nothing compared to Saints Row 2. What else oh wait anti-competitive middlewares, making AMD users feel like their cards are crap or like what Fallout 4 does with AMD CPU users.

pc gaming industry is way ahead of console gaming both in software and hardware profit wise... but still the industry has to work on lots of things to keep pc gaming industry dominant. intel nvidia steam all are pseudo-monopolies now, and monopolies are always bad for consumers. some can even go ahead one more step and say 'evga and asus and asus are also pseudo monopolies on gfx card, motherboard and monitors respectively'. evga's market share is way more than whole amd gpu division. :v though gpu/mobo vendors dont have that much of significance like actual chip makers.

at least pc gaming industry doesnt have monopolies on video game publishing -_- indie games are getting better and lot of indie games are getting sold on steam each year. well, at the same time pc gaming has another major 'problem' named early-access -_- . i am not against people buying early access to support developers but people are buying early access just because other people/friends are buying it, which is kinda ridiculous.

but at the same time, i will not say that amd has nothing to do with those intel/nvidia monopolies like some fanboys want to claim. amd has taken some(or many?) bad decisions and released bad products just to stay relevant. in the free market, you have to pay the price of your bad decisions, that's how the industry works.

what can pc gamers do at this moment?

    1) verbally asking AAA and AA game developers/publishers to optimize games for both amd and nv gpus.
some even say we should keep buying amd to support them, but honestly for many reasons i don't even recommend high end amd gpus now though i used amd gpus for many years.

    2) same for both intel and amd cpus? but honestly i don't think anybody will take that seriously. I wouldn't.

    3) hoping that amd will get better and gog galaxy or some other can get better to compete with steam. steam's pseudo monopoly is not even pseudo now its actual monopoly .

    4) stop buying early access just for believing the hype. i bought squad and rust coz i like the concept, i want them to be an awesome game when they finally get full releases. but people are buying early access because they are riding the hype train... thats bad.

Same here, you know what else is funny? Fallout 4's new patch started favoring AMD's GPUs just like the video I've shown. The narrator said something about change in renderer somehow.

Still depressing to see how the amd cards were significantly underpowered just because of software optimization.

The graph seems to show pverall performance boost to all GPUs. But the video says that this actually lowers the performance of nvidia cards.

Is that true? Havr you checked out the patch? Did it lower performance for your card?

Same goes for Pre-ordering. Dont give up your money just on a publisher's promise that they are going to come out with an awesome game.

I don't play the game but the patch seems to have benefited all cards.

Actually am not regretting the preorder on Fallout 4, the game runes well......actually now it is. Also the mods, I mean holy crap I changed the dialogue menu display to something more linear like Fallout 3 and it displays every subtitle of the conversation instead to choose from.

    Then you are not Bill.

But honestly, I can't tell you what you can/cannot do with your money. If you are enjoying the game, then more power to you, and money was well spent.

However, incidents like last year's Arkham Knight fiasco really put the whole idea of pre ordering under the spotlight. The developers were not forthcoming about the fact that the PC port was being handled by a different studio, and we all know how that turned out. So what I am saying is that it is going to be a gamble when you are pre ordering anything.

Well at least people got their refunds, but still it shows what a Publisher can do nowadays with a port. Porting to PC is much harder recently since you need to add extra features to compensate the fact that it's a PC port. Also lets talk about how WB executives effed up a port seriously, Rocksteady did PC ports before, how can they outsource this to some crappy company that did the same work on Mortal Kombat X?

actually porting to pc is lot easier than 7th generation. even if we forget about how ps3 arch was different from other arch, porting to xbone or ps4 to pc is easier. thats why we see lot of ports now, many games in earlier generation didnt even come to pc. microsoft even semi-officially declared that xbone won't have any full exclusive, games will come to pc.

the real problem lies in losers' pre-ordering and ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤** game reviewers who refuse to even mention that 'this game is barely playable/lots of glitches' in their reviews.

The professional review companies are legally not allowed to mention bugs and patches in any game because they are given a non-retail (as in not final) version of the game to play. They are instructed to assume that all glitches will be fixed in the retail version.

This rule has it's merits, but we see how that has been working out recently -_-.

Yup forgot to mention about MKX as well. I got reports from TotalBiscuit that they were trying out a "play while you download" feature. Steam was using their DLC download system for this and hence most parts of the game could not be loaded correctly and gamers were just treated to a fancy start menu.

B:AK was hit hard because if you remember the steam refund system was introduced just before the launch of arkham knight, and it was good to see steam users were making good use of it. But even if you could refund, the issue was you were tricked into pre ordering under a false pretense that the game is going to be awesome, look good, run good etc. This is a false advertising, and publisher ought to face criminal charges and stuff.

Nobody can be forced to say what they do with their money, I am not entirely blaming/calling out anyone who pre orders, but the reality is, this system is easily abused by publishers so that they can make the initial launch day sales. Launch sales account for the most sales a game will have over its lifetime and that's where the publishers would like to capitalize on, without the best interest's of the consumers.

    professional == ethical?

If that was the case, the publishers should have never taken the review copy of the game in the first place. The whole point of a game review is to allow the consumer to make an informed purchase by reading up the goods and the bads of the game. This falls back to the idea of launch day sales. Pubs want less people to know how the the game is really performing so that they can cash in on the impulse day 1 buys. Holding back reviews is anti consumer and should be made illegal. When all the dust settles and the game shows its really ugly head there's not much you could do about it (expect for refunds).

They are instructed to assume that all glitches will be fixed in the retail version.

Again, we are expected to buy/preorder a game based on a feeble promise made out by a large corporation. And like you said, its not working out, at least it doesn't for the consumers.

    Everything aside:
    1. Do not preorder (though this can never be enforced, do what you want with your money)
    2. Wait for reviews, let's plays.
    3. Make a informed decision and buy the game you want.

You linked to a frametime bench where lower is better, ROFL.

thats why mainstream reviewers suck. at least non-mainstream reviewers and critics let us know there are bugs in the game but they also say that 'what we have is a review copy so full game might be better.' etc.

the problem is... here if we want to buy legit pc games cheap we often have to rely on nvidia coupon code which is kinda pre order -_- so that means i can scream how pre ordering is cancer then i gotta pre order coz new games on steam are 4000tk and nvidia coupon code pre order is 1800tk
