"We’ve wired all 100 homes with Fiber, and families can sign up today to access the Internet at up to 1,000Mbps," the Google Fiber announcement said. "Across Kansas City, we’re working with local affordable housing providers to connect up to nine properties, reaching more than 1,300 families in the metro area."
Now, this is called free internet...free freaking gigabit internet...

it's being made available to people who won't really use it much though, and all of it will be easily monitored. besides it also counts as charity and they can reduce the taxes they'll have to pay there because of it. which is genius actually since the people they are giving it too won't exactly use much of it. I've been to kansas city in the past and let me tell you, the parts where it's going to even puran dhaka at midnight travelling alone is safer. it's almost a ghetto where it's being sent so people likely aren't going to be using it + they get tax returns for the charity that won't be used.

google will slowly start spreading their free(cheap) high speed service. now its only in some specific area but they will start spreading it, but they have to calculate their steps... how this affects their other business(including google X's projects) and competition in long run etc. etc.
and i don't wanna comment about the tax-relief thingy... whether they will start spreading fiber because they want to take over the world or they just want tax relief (or both), i dont wanna comment now.
