u got to get on windows 10 if u want kaby lake 14nm cpu. to me its not that much of a big deal since the current skylake or older generation will still get u through several gpu generations. it would be shocking if MS does the same with gpu.

Could be a possibility. The way they have been pushing Windows 10 to the devices with older windows OS, any day they could say DirectX12 or nothing. Who knows? Windows is being real shady lately.

Then, Skylake shall be your last generation of Intel cpu.

    Or, you could use Linux...

As for Windows 10, it is as shady as an operating system can go. The amount of data it collects from the user is phenomenal. No doubt it's faster, sleeker, has nice multi-tasking features, has better gaming performance; but I can see that Windows 10 users getting targeted ads on their desktops any day now.

Let me guess, you couldn't find the option to manually let windows ask about updates instead of doing it automatically with small useless options of automatic restart or ask before . This is the worst part of the windows that distraught me even more

It is not faster. Bootup is slower than 8.1. Opening folders aint fast, restarting aint fast and most importantly, it uses lots of network traffic.

Ah! Windows 8.1...it was pretty hard for me to ditch it for 10 ...used windows 8 and 8.1 from it's developer edition. I was late in the game in case of 10 though. The transition was hard for me. However, I cannot compare the boot times between them as my pc's workloads drastically changed after installing windows 10 (a bit over 10 seconds right now).

However, I must say 10 can handle itself even in super tortures mode. Think about 100% cpu usage with 80-90% SSD activity plus 25-30 instances of teeth-grinding work loads running simultaneously at a stretch . Sometimes it goes on for weeks. Hardly faced any BSOD on windows 10. However, Windows 8.1 could not handle my previous puny workloads without BSODing every 2-3 days of uptimes. Moreover, I can use my PC without terrible hiccups on windows 10 while working which I couldn't do with 8.1. But, this is a very specific and terrible case of scenario. So, my comparison can be ignored.

About the network traffic, there are like 10-15 things you have to turn off after installing windows 10. Otherwise, nobody can tell who is using the internet. Windows 10 straight up tracks everything and sends every bits of data to Microsoft.

Agree. But with TH2 it improved a bit. But still not as good as 8.1.

Finally, somebody understands what i am saying. Thikmoto tweak korte parle Windows 8.1 is just terrific fast. TERRIFIC. FAST. It also yields you significantly higher cinebench score with the exact same hardware setup. That explains how much background workloads Windows 10 puts on the processor.

This is the thing that is bothering me with Microsoft. People are optimizing their systems, getting better performances, feeling comfortable and using it fine and then Microsoft tells us that DX12 will be a windows 10 feature. And, then, they straight up stop officially supporting literally 2-3 years old OS for newer processors. Maximum PC gamer is on Windows platform and they will just miss DX12 or new cpu platform if they don't upgrade to Windows 10. They are like pushing it whole through the mouth of the users.

Only if valve could get their SteamOS sorted out faster. Probably would switch to linux. Not as fast and not as polished as windows but at least it's less shady.

Aren't we all running pirated Windows? So why are we crying about this? Did any of you guys actually paid for windows 7 or 8? Or will be forced to buy windows 10?

    Title is misleading.

Microsoft is not going to develop support for new instruction sets / hardware enhancements for older versions of Windows anymore, but for what it is worth -- the oses themselves will keep functioning just fine.

They just won't get the benefit of newer instructions being added (recent examples could be AES-NI, rdrand or quicksync (all supported by 7)).
