i3-2100 temperature?

I think my core i3-2100(running with stock cooler) temperature isn't right. In BIOS it shows as 65°C and in Windows (XP SP3) when doing light tasks (processor usage < 10%) the temperature is ~55°C but when I run games for hours the temperature hits ~85°C! (as shown by 'Speccy')
And the CPU fan speed shown in BIOS is ~3000RPM and in Speccy it shows as 46RPM!!! :S


I was using the built-in Intel HD Graphics before but now I'm running an external GPU, so I think the processor isn't involved in the graphics anymore.And I never OC'd my CPU.
Are the temperatures alright?? What should I do?

Whatever software you are using to monitor fan speeds while in OS... I think it is not giving the correct reading. If your CPU fan rotates at 46 RPM, 1. your PC is gonna shut off every now and then due to overheating 2. you should be able to see the individual fan blades rotating slowly (one revolution will take longer than 1 second). If those two conditions are not met, that software is lying to you (tachnically... maybe it is reading from the wrong sensor).

Now lets assume that you do have a problem. The only way to find out is to dismantle the case and examine. From your description it may be a jammed fan, improper installation of the cooler (or insufficient pressure), lack of thermal compound etc. You'll know once you start diagnosing. If you are inexperienced, then I strongly recommend that you keep an experienced person with you to guide you throughout the process. From the next time, you should be able to do it all by yourself. Nobody willing to help? Then youtube is your best friend. Just make sure that you know what you are doing.

^ Thanks for the vids and I used 'Speccy' to check the CPU fan speed. I was also baffled to see 46RPM!! Then when I saw ~3000RPM in BIOS I was a bit relieved. So isn't there a better software to view these details accurately?

Other than the CPU temperature I've got no other issues, even the PC performance is okay I guess, also it has been over a month now and I just noticed the temperature after I installed Speccy, so is this some serious threat if it doesn't get resolved soon??

I faced same problems a few days back. All I had to do was apply some thermal paste,and disassembling the fan is really child's play. You should be able to do it,without any videos. And before doing that download CPU-z and check your temps there.

CPU-Z e temps kemne dekha jai?
Use RealTemp or CoreTemp.

Okay I've opened my CPU cooler, cleaned up the dust around that area and put back in the cooler as shown in the youtube video. I couldn't figure out anything wrong with the setup so I took pictures of the CPU and the bottom of the cooler.

Here are the pictures, you guys have a look and see if you can find anything wrong (sorry for the pic quality, I don't own a digital camera ).


Now I'll be running my PC for a few hours, playing some games, and then post update about CPU temperature.

multilpan er BM conputer...go there and buy one of those chinese fans that uses screws....they r way better than the stock fans....that should solve your problem. price is around 500tk /700tk ( cant remember properly)

Well like I said, I couldn't figure out anything wrong that's why I posted the pics. And I guess the cooler can be re-opened!
Now all I need to know is, what should I do to control my CPU temp?

LOL Temps will be outrageous cuz u have literally no thermal interface material at all. Go to a computer market & ask for "processor Paste" The white 1s cost 20tk & the silver 1s cost ~100tk. Get the Silver 1s if its available. Then do this >>

After cleaning all the dust yesterday and placing the cooler properly the CPU temperature is alot less than before. When doing normal tasks the temp is ~43°C and when gaming its ~71°C.

Here's a scrnsht of RealTemp, this was taken after 6 continuous hours of running the PC, doing normal tasks but mostly gaming.


However, I still think the temperatures are high. And about the thermal paste, I went to a nearby computer shop today and they have the 'white one'. Will this 'white one' be good enough to resolve the temperature issue or should I go to IDB and get the 'silver one'?
