Sonic 4: Episode 2 finally confirmed for 2012
New trailer confirms returning characters for digital platformer

Sega has announced the next episode of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and released a brand new trailer along with it.

Releasing a whole two years after the first episode, Episode 2 will launch on PSN, Xbox Live Arcade, iOS, Windows Phone and Android. It will not join its predecessor on the Wii, however. All-new character animations and a completely reworked physics engine are among the new features packed in Episode 2, says Sega, along with new levels and challenges to speed through.

The trailer below also confirms an appearance from Metal Sonic and Tails in the game.

"After twenty years in action, it's clear that Sonic hasn't slowed down one bit," said Sega of America executive Haruki Satomi.

"The first entry in the Sonic 4 saga was a major success. We've listened to the fans and been hard at work making sure we recapture that same spirit of fun in Episode II. We hope the fans will enjoy it."

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 is scheduled for release some time in 2012.

Sega has released a 36-minute 'history of Sonic' video feature celebrating 20 years of the blue speedster.
