Default Replacement fan for Radeon 5770

Lately I've noticed the fan on my Radeon 5770 (Batmobile cooler) is not as loud as it used to be. I decided to open up the case today and I noticed it spinning significantly slower than usual. Changing the fan speed from CCC has no effect either. In addition, the fan speed seems to be variable, i.e. I can sometimes see it slowing down, and then revving up again. My idle temp right now is 43 C, despite the weather, God knows what it would be like in summer. I opened it from the case and gave it a brief cleaning with the dust blower. I also took the fan shroud off and cleaned the fan. It's an Everflow T128015SH with a 2-pin fan header. Pics given below

Also, when powered on, the fan used to spin at 100% duty cycle for a few seconds and then slowed down to the value CCC set it at. But now, it does not spin initially at all. During my last restart I had to spin it by hand to get it started

I believe my fan is dying, does anyone have any ideas where I can find a replacement? Or if I can't find the actual thing, any way I can jury rig a high performance 80mm fan on my card?

P.S. I still have six months of warranty left, but I have to leave the card at the shop and go PC-less for a few days which I can't really afford right now. The less painful alternative would be to hunt around and buy a replacement fan myself.

    Tagging some users who have experience in these areas, @error , @Hemlock , @Infracted , @romulus_ut3 . I hope you won't mind.

I don't think you'll find a replacement fan, you won't even be able to put a high performance 80mm fan as it won't fit in properly. You might be able to get if off from a dead card if anyone wants to give it away or something. Otherwise, RMA'ing it would be your best bet. This fan is not even available on amazon. :/

Just like error said, you will not find a replacement unless, of course, you find a seller who's willing to sell their video card fan separately. You better call up the shop you bought your card from. They will give you the correct answer.

This is bad, because this fan is going to be a lot harder to find than the stock radeon fans, actually impossible to get a 70mm replacement that features three screw mounts. You sure can find ways to mount an 80mm over the cooler with zip ties or strong rubber bands. It 's going to be a little tricky because i've disassembled this exact 5770 (it 's in my secondary PC) and as far as i can recall form the pattern, if you zip tie it, the ties on left hand side will have to go under the pciex slot pins(which will render the card useless). Insted you can run rubber bands/ strong threads/ties beneath the cooler and take support of it.

I definitely think you should hand it over under warranty, that might be the only sensible solution. It 's better to abandon the PC for a while in order to get a fully functional card than to live with a card that has an 80mm case fan zip-tied on it, you can 't even sell it later. But if you are looking for a temporary solution and will ultimately avail warranty when you can give your PC a break, then using the cooler as a support to fix an aftermarket fan over it will do the job for now.

first try to spin the fan with your finger. Does it spin smooth? If it slows down too fast or there is some resistance, it might be dying. but some fans have multiple poles like stepper motors. they tend to move like bicycle sprockets. they normally show resistance. Like the fan of 4890, 5850 stock. But normal 2 pole fans, like yours usually do not show any resistance.

If it is dying, best solution RMA. but if you have to run it for now, you dont have to do anything. as in this temp it will be OK for couple of weeks. make sure the fan doesnt completely stop.

and in another thought, @Hemlock said it all.

faisal.amir.bd ,i'm saying this from my 5770 RAM experience....IF you send it for RAM, you WON'T get the card back! ...they'll ask you to either upgrade to 6770 with 2k or they'll give you a 6670 as replacement .

i was so frustated with my RMA procedure, that i went to UCC's head office to complain...the only thing a managed to change was a reduction in the "upgrade" cost. i had to pay 1.5k instead to 2k.

they don't import 5770s anymore so if you send for RMA, then there's high chances that you wont see you card ever again.

Not that they won 't give him warranty, they will have to satisfy the RMA with another equivalent product if the same product is not available anymore. And it 's RMA Rajmi, not RAM.

Pics given belowClick image for larger version.

During my last restart I had to spin it by hand to get it started I believe my fan is dying, does anyone have any ideas where I can find a replacement? Or if I can't find the actual thing, any way I can jury rig a high performance 80mm fan on my card?P.S. I still have six months of warranty left, but I have to leave the card at the shop and go PC-less for a few days which I can't really afford right now. The less painful alternative would be to hunt around and buy a replacement fan myself.Tagging some users who have experience in these areas, @error , @Hemlock , @Infracted , @romulus_ut3 . I hope you won't mind.
Try to spin the fan with ur finger; if u feel resistance, Buy a WD40 Spray (available in stadium) and then pull out the sticker off the fan which will reveal a small hole. Now shake ur WD40 attach the supplied red pipe and spray on that hole. I'm sure you will be surprised with the result.btw WD40 is 1 hell of a useful staff for which U'll find plenty of useful use in future.

There is significant resistance to motion. The fan is dying. Just now I had to spin it manually to get it started.

What I am hoping for is that since it's only the fan that needs replacing they might have some dead cards lying around they can just substitute the cooler from. But maybe I'm being too optimistic.

Yes, lol. I've had some actually "insane" warranty stories. But nonetheless, it won't be any help to the OP here, so no point in writing. What I would suggest is that, you get the RMA done. Manage a cheap GPU, so that you can work while the RMA is being done. That way it would be a lot easier & worthwhile than replacing & tinkering with the fan.

@Rajmi , please don't scare people like that saying you won't get warranty & stuff like that. If you know how to "claim" warranty, you'll surely get it. Then there's no point in buying a brand new product, the point is he has warranty left & that should be his 1st priority.

Oh, btw @faisal.amir.bd , I don't know how you can control the fan RPM, since it's only a 2pin fan, you need atleast a 4pin fan to actually see fan RPM speed/control. I guess, your card manages it by controlling it with a PWM voltage control, rather than actual RPM throttling. I best I would advice is to go for RMA bhaiya, even if you find a 2pin replacement fan, chances are that it won't match exactly with the one that came with your batmobile cooler & might not work properly if it requires a higher power.

That's the biggest problem, no one I know has a spare PCI-E GPU lying around
