it's a good thing to know.but, may i ask if your earning is more than 6 digit figure?if so please make us employee of your private organization.we promise we too will give up on piracy for sure(personal guarantee included).

    on serious note:
why i would pay game studio developer like EA or UBISOFT( S H I T) who firstly make hype to the community, make a big pr about it & lastly give us just a piece of paper for 60$ or so with each dlc & season pass pricing like 50$+.plus adding that with shitty optimization & lastly not to mention their ambitious h/w requirement lust.a game that has the capability to run maxed out with 60fps on a gtx 750ti requires 980ti SLI only for bad coding & optimization.
now this is just for the gaming scenario.ask me if u want more example of other media types.

You are consuming their content so they make the rules. You don't follow their rules, you are pirating. That's it. Doesn't matter how you justify it.

Trust me, I used to make that kind of excuse too.
But I realized that stealing from a bad person doesn't justify your actions at all. I know most of the SW and game developers asks for unreasonable amount of money. Now if you think they are the bad guys it would be better to boycott them, in stead of pirating their products.
Doing something wrong is bad, but trying to justify the wrong is worse.

once someone said software should be free for all.we never said that games/application are overpriced.but, the dirty marketing that developers play with us is just too much & deserve the pirate industry that exist today.

beside pirating is not stealing.do not confuse pirate with stealing.

let me give u an example.u heard of blizzard.yes the developer & publisher of Starcraft,WOW e.t.c.
do u know that u can try every single title they ever released for free(i mean dead free,no limit)to be more specific let's say for an example starcraft II.u can create account for free, play online for free(yes unlimited).& there is no trickery involved.of course there are limit like u can't progress on campaign & some restriction on multiplayer.
but, that being said u know why blizzard do that?
bcoz they have confidence on their product.both in quality & optimization.they know after experiencing their product for free u will be bound to buy it.
& despite dlc & bla bla stuff.blizzard also offer only 2 edition of their individual product.standard & collector's edition.that's it.

ask other developer to do the same.when they are done.come back here & ask the same question to us(pirates) if there will be anyone left to ask by that time.

trust me i am developer myself & if u not in this industry u do not have single idea of how the behind the scene thing works.

btw,FYI i am not an employee of blizzard if u may ask.that was just an example,i can throw u a lot more.but, first digest this one.looking forward for ur response.

& for religious matter.that is totally different issue.& i would rather shut my mouth in that.

^^I am a staple player of Blizzard's f2p Hearthstone, and despite what many people will say I don't believe its p2w.
Never tried SC II, so no comments on that.
I tried Diablo III for about an hour and even though I was using the account of a friend who had the full game I didn't feel attached. It was good, but that's about it.
Speaking of Diablo III, it is one of the hardest game to pirate. So talking about pirating it is useless.
I know Blizzard is one of the greediest of companies. That doesn't make it justified to pirate from them.

As for my deleted games, I had about 300 GB worth of pirated games, none of them was from blizzard. That included Skyrim, Divinity, Witcher 3, Fallout, Dark Souls, Bioshock etc. As far as developers go Bethesda, CD projekt, Larian are some of the best guys around. That didn't prevent me from pirating them. Does that prevent you?

Even if the developers are evil, that doesn't justify pirating from them, don't play the games at all if you don't like the developers. Maybe if more people were interested in buying the games the developers would reduce the prices. Don't make the hackers feel that they are Robin Hood.

Softwares and Games are the intellectual property of the developers. Of course it's virtual, but if everyone thinks piracy isn't stealing and quite okay, then programmers would starve.

    - - - Updated - - -

Anyway, I don't want to argue any further about whether piracy is right or wrong. I didn't say 'Hey guys, I stopped pirating, you gotta do it too.' If you think it's okay, by all means keep doing it.

alhamdulillah. i really appreciate your effort... i am also trying to stop pirating... a sin is a sin, no matter how you see it... and it's scary once you think how you will answer when we are asked about our deeds... so better try our best to keep a clean sheet and rely on Allah for the rest. i just bought a subscription of office 365 to stop piracy.... next will be windows... @minitt bro, looking at you for some great deals, eh... don't play games anymore so no problems with that... movies and series are also out of the picture for me... it's all good!!

Didn't occur to me to keep a screenshot beforehand. Anyway, I'm saved from purchasing a new HDD.
hats off to you if you can stick to your decision. As a student it would be tough for you.

If you need to buy any software/Games I can get that for you at 80BDT/1$ for the next 3 months which means i won't make any profit out of you. Hope that helps. good luck.

So this is my personal stance on piracy. This post might be a bit messy because I used to have strong feeling about it (well, to some degree I still have)

To this date, I've pirated countless piece of softwares and games. Don't get wrong, I don't mind paying for them. In fact, I actively try to pay (and paid) for softwares and games that I really liked and felt like they needed my support. Now, what about stuff I didn't like? Of course I'll also pay for them, but you can't expect me to go out of my way to do that, can you? If I can go to my nearest pc market and buy an original game then I will. But I can't, so I'll buy whatever tk50/100 pirated game they have, because I can't be bothered to search around for a shop that sells original games. I'll prefer to buy something from steam, but I can't purchase from steam using my brac debit card and I can't be bothered to look for a bKash agent to buy a steam card, so I'll torrent it instead.
I'll go out of my way to pay for something that I believe that deserves my efforts. Other than that, I don't care. I don't mind paying, but how they're going to take my money is their headache, not mine. It's not my fault paypal doesn't support Bangladesh.

Now, I don't hate piracy. A long time ago I had to wipe my wallet clean to buy hardwares for my first pc. I didn't have money to buy original windows or office suite, hell, I couldn't even buy them even if I had money. Back then the concept of "genuine software" didn't exist in pc market. Big name computer shops weren't selling original windows and antivirus software like they do now. In that situation I could only rely on pirated softwares. I am where I am today because of pirated softwares. I learned about operating systems by tinkering windows which was pirated. I learned to make documents and slides using pirated office. The first game I played was a pirated gta san andreas. My little knowledge about image editing also came from messing around with a pirated photoshop. I wouldn't have bothered with computers if I had to pay more money for softwares than hardwares. With the lack of genuine softwares I wouldn't have even gotten a chance to use computers, it wouldn't be anything more than an expensive toy without softwares. I am where I am today because of pirated softwares. Without pirated softwares I wouldn't be studying computer science today. I'm not justifying software piracy. But I'm not denying their importance either.

Refrain from calling others retard/uneducated. Doing the same again will get you a ban.

He made a good and fair decision that many of us can't. Try to appreciate that. I did try to appreciate his decision by offering what I can.

I am gonna be the Devils advocate and here are my thoughts about Piracy. Its wrong. Simply wrong. There is no logic, no reason, no sad story or bla bla bla that will make it right.

Whenever I pirate it hurts the developer. @Speed pointed out that piracy is different from physical theft, but none the less its equally damaging. Just imagine how would it make me feel if 10 other people copied my answers in examinations and received the same grade as me. Now if I studied hard and didnt like those 10 guys who copied, I will be pissed and butt hurt.

@rexron told us how he has learn so much by using pirated softwares and how it has allowed him to study computer science. Even I learned a lot from the softwares which I pirated. When I pirated MS office I learned about Open office. When I pirated Adobe Photoshop I learned about GIMP and when I pirated MS Windows I learned about Linux. But I dont understand how does playing pirated version of GTA helped him in his education. Now I know why I couldn't become a doctor. I wish I could have pirated actual sick patients and medicines, then I could have become a doctor.

I sure pretty sure that most of the piracy which I conduct on the sovereign soil of Bangladesh are legal. But immoral none the rest.
I must congratulate @shawon0418 to be brave enough to get out of these treacherous waters and try to make a living in the respectable dry land. I wish you all the best.

And for rest of my pirate allies, all I can say to you is "STOP BEING A SISSY, WE DON"T NEED TO JUSTIFY OUR ACTIONS. WE ARE PIRATES, WE DON"T FOLLOW RULES, WE HAVE NO MORALITY, AND WE PIRATE BECAUSE WE WANT TO NOT BECAUSE WE HAVE TO. WE ARE BAD MEN WHO NEEDS TO BE FEARED NOT RESPECTED. AAARRRRRR!!!!!"

Wow that's a very brave en devour.. Good luck.

Btw did you decide to stop pirating games or pirating in general.

The thought of depending on Star world/HBO India for your TV shows and movies just sent shivers through my spine :S..

The reason I decided to stop pirating is I think it's wrong. Once I decided it, I would remove all the pirated games and movies regardless of HDD space. However, having more HDD space is a nice little perk that comes with it. I do have a relatively high speed connection, but it has nothing to do with it.

Sorry if my first post was misleading.

while i do strongly believe that steam should sells game in BD at BD price rate not USA rate (60$ game is insane compare to BD economy, you can get pc cd key in india quite cheaper compared to BD) i dont think you need 6digit monthly income to afford original games. i mean if you want to play 20 full priced original games each year then it will be extremely difficult, but if you stick to 3-4 full priced AAA games and couple of half priced games then you can 'easily' afford them if you have ~300$ monthly salary. also, although we dont have steam regional we have g2a, and g2a sells many games at significant cheaper price all the time.

now this is just for the gaming scenario.ask me if u want more example of other media types.
    bro calm down please

at those problems you mentioned are more related to pre-order than related to game release or pc release. pre order is cancer. about pc release yes i admit many multiplatform developers dont care about pc much, because usually AAA games sells more in consoles than pc. but you have to realize the AAA game industry is getting worse and worse. we have buggy battlefield and other unfinished releases from EA (in all platforms). ubisoft too releases unfinished buggy games for last 4-5 years in all platforms. and you know the main culprit for these act of thievery/fraud? pre order and mainstream vidoe games reviewers.

about the configuration i know you have a very beastly pc but i think its because game developers dont want to optimize for ultra settings, but the high, very high settings are optimized in most of the games actually.

but, that being said u know why blizzard do that?

    .
ok i get it, you are big fan of blizzard and they are definitely one of the best developers out there. but you do realize they sell multiplayer games only? for single player game devleopers its not possible to make free and paid edition for the game at all, for example- mass effect or witcher. i do realize they should release demo version for all single player games so we can check optimization of other stuff but blizzard gives lot of content for absolutely free for their multiplayer games. while for single player games developer cant and arguably should not give lot of content for free.

this is the best video about piracy-

i do get the idea that pirating video games may not be 'stealing' but that only doesnt justify piracy at all. i do realize developers have some misconception about piracy... they think every pirated copy is a lost sale which is not true at all, but still, if you make a video game now or a music album or direct a cinema and people pirate it like crazy how would you feel? will you start justification then?

    off topic:
also, as i live in a very politically unstable country i do see people (supporters) of different political parties justifying their activities no matter how inhuman how sick how immoral those actions were. and all these things make me sick. because as far as i see in life in many times those who try to justify their 'robbing the bad people and being robin hood' are the vicious culprits who make people suffer even more.

on the other hand, on topic: just because you dont follow the law dont make you a psychopathetic criminal either for example distributing old ps2 or ps1 era games or even older games are illegal and police may arrest you for doing that. but those console makers dont even preseerve their games and dont even sell those 6th generation consoles or console games. so the only way to preserve it is to emulation=piracy=illegal activity.

    summary/ TLDR:
    what i feel about piracy-

piracy is bad, but i feel and will always feel its justified for 3rd world countries where steam doesnt sell games at regional prices(russians and indians are lucky), or where people dont have proper internet connection. but if you live in 1st or 2nd world country piracy is bad/evil. steam or game developers expecting many 3rd world gamers to pay full 60$ for AAA games is ridiculous.

also, putting stupid drm on pc like always online drm in assassins creed 2 pc or simcity or new nfs and expecting this will prevent piracy is uber stupid move too. because people can and will always be able to pirate your games on pc, because its a pc, it can do anything. moreover, assassins creed 2 pc always online drm was a fail because after the game released ubi servers went offline for sometime, that means pirates had BETTER EXPERIENCE than pc original buyers. thanks ubisoft.

I decided to stop pirating because I think it's wrong. However having free HDD space is a nice little perk that came with it. My internet speed is relatively high, but it has nothing to do with the decision. Sorry if the first post was misleading.
