Ultimately as gamers all we can do is take a wait-and-see approach to the whole matter. But as DirectX 12 game development ramps up, I am cautiously optimistic that positive experiences like Ashes will help encourage other developers to plan for multi-adapter support as well.

without doing a very unstable driver hack? on any kind of AMD/Nvidia cards? I heard about using Nvidia cards as physX hardware with AMD ones. And, I don't think Explicit Multi-Adapter was a built-in thing before DirectX 12 (maybe with LucidLogix...but the real world gains were too little). Now, this technology is legit in a sense that nobody has to be an expert to run a multi-gpu setup. And, just look at the performance gains...

As the Ashes developers said themselves, it isn't easy to program for multi-adapter and it has to be done seperately. I don't know how many developers will want to undertake the task.

DX12 feature so ...but I think any DX12 "supported" card should do (since they have used 7970 and 680)...I am not sure but Nvidia is supporting DX12 down to 500 or 400 series and AMD is down to 6000? ...

Yes, that's the whole summary of the story...Will the developers do the extra task to support older gpus? History says they probably won't...
