It would work if you were using an intel processor (your processor consumes raw 125watt). I used to use exactly this card with my TT Litepower 430w when i was using core2 Duo E8400. Surely it would work

He used a molex to 6 pin PCI E converter to power the card, easy, but it's not safe using a 430W PSU with HD 5830, HD 5830 consumes more power than the elder brother HD 5850, the difference between the two is that 5850 uses better power phasing whereas the 5830 uses less efficient power designing.

Each & every single card can be run on a generic 400w psu if you try. but that doesn't mean it will work for a long time. 5830 on a LP 430w is far from the recommendation level no matter which cpu he uses indeed....5830 is a cut-down version of 5870...thats why power consumption level is almost same although the new 5830 xtreme draw somewhat lower than the reference one.......

    1. Nope, my GIGABYTE 5850OC (C2D E8400, 4GB DDR2, P35) failed to start or restarting from bios when i was using a generic 450w (sold to @faisal .amirbd now).

    2. A GIGABYTE 4870 with Litepower 400w is running for last 3 years in my cyber cafe in Cantonment. You are welcome to come and see by yourself

    3. When i OC'ed my previous E8400 to 3.60 (92watt by psucalculator) from 3.00 Ghz with my P43, 4GB ADATA XPG, and Sapphire 5830 Extreme, the system became unstable and BSOD was occurring every 10 mins or restarting from bios continuosly. When i ran my processor with stock clock (64.6 watt by psucalculator). Everything got okay, and i played this system for more than 1 month until i sold out everything. *** this errors and calculation was measured while playing cpu intensive BF3

In the end, i'd like to say, it all matters how you manage your power consumpton.

    ---------- Post added at 18:14 ---------- Previous post was at 17:29 ----------

But still, I STRONGLY SUGGEST NOT TO FOLLOW ME AND BUY A GOOD PSU INSTEAD.

Oh man why don't you get that everyone may not be lucky like you...i have friend who has been using a 8800 ultra(175W+ tdp) on a generic psu for over 3 years!....but mine generic psu died within a month while trying a simple 8800gts...it totally depends upon luck....
if you don't believe me just try to run a 6970 on your LP 430w(on your own risk ). i'm sure it won't die for the first time but something might happen within a couple of month unless you are extremely lucky like my friend...it will take some time to weaken the capacitors of your psu. may be a month or even a year(if its too good!)
so it is better not to suggest others to do these kind of risky stuffs.....
