NetherRealm Taking A Break From Mortal Kombat

The recent reboot of Mortal Kombat has been a big hit with fighting game fans, but that isn't stopping developer NetherRealm from moving on to a different project.

is reporting that Ed Boon has confirmed the studio will be taking a break from MK in favor of a new project, but that the studio will return to the series at an undetermined time in the future. Boon also stated that there will be no further DLC for Mortal Kombat. I'm not sure if fighting fans should be disappointed by the lack of future DLC support, or be happy that NetherRealm isn't milking the franchise with multiple iterations like Capcom is recently so fond of doing.

However, this news contradicts the recent UK ratings filing for a Mortal Kombat Komplete, which popular opinion speculates will be a re-release of Mortal Kombat with all of the DLC included on the disc. Maybe Boon doesn't count the project as
new content, or maybe the studio is already done working on it -- or maybe the speculation was just plain wrong in the first place. Whatever the case, we're excited to see the next project NetherRealm has up its sleeve.
