Square Enix licenses Unreal Engine 3
Final Fantasy maker to develop multiple games using Epic's engine
Square Enix has been granted a license to develop games with Epic's Unreal Engine 3 technology.
It's a multi-game license, although details of the projects have yet to be announced. "Many Western games have achieved great success with the Unreal Engine, and this milestone reflects the Japanese development community's trust in our technical prowess," said Taka Kawasaki, territory manager of Epic Games Japan.
"We can't wait to see how Square Enix fuses the power of Unreal Engine 3 with its beautiful characters, enthralling storylines and fantastic gameplay."
Opened in 2009, Epic Games Japan focuses on local sales and support of Epic's Unreal Engine technology, but the company has said it could expand to become a development outfit in time.
